Upside down 8

Whenever I look on the MG website or printed literature the number 8 is always upside down. Why? Is it to do with the Chinese luck with 8, lost in translation, or a copyright feature?

At least it's not on its side, that could mean a lot longer than the top half of the 8 draining down into the bottom half
