The release date of the ID2 ( Electric Polo ) is likely to be late 2024 - 25 and the VW CEO would not be drawn on the final battery size of this car etc.
Only to say, it will be competitive to other models in a similar class / sector of the market.
This statement does give VW the option of wiggle room, to adjust the size of the pack in order to hit the correct price point / sector for this car prior to reveal date.
When the ID2 EV arrives on UK soil in 2024 - 25 as the EV Polo, then the car has already missed the boat in this sector IMO ?. ( Sorry - Bad Joke ).
To many other manufacturers, who appear to have this sector of the EV market covered by this point.
Here is a similar review, which includes some interesting responses from the new CEO of VW with regards to the new interest interest shown in the VW - ID2 ( Polo ).
The presenter suggesting that VW intends to produce their EV’s to be a little less EV radical / stand out their design looks ?.
There is no mistaking that this ID2 is a Polo though !.
Unlike the ID3 compared to the Golf ?.

And yet another video on this VW id2/ev polo but some very good pictures of the storage space which looks fantastic as the batteries are in the front not under the floor according to this reporter unlike most other EVs looks really clever to me and seats that really do fold down great.

Is this just going to be another town car like the Seat Mii electric or a proper longer distance vehicle ?

VW are keeping quiet 🤫 on battery size / range and charging speed at the moment.
It will be a bigger car than Seat that’s 100% for sure.
Inside space in the ID2 ( Polo ) will be closer to a fossil Golf I would say.

Mention of 280 miles range suggests a 60kwh battery?

I think vw are using a tactic here.
Announce a car/ model for a few years off and a low price, hoping they don't lose any sales as their loyal customers will duly wait a few years for the badge.
Then in a few years the price has jumped due to parts shortages, inflation etc.

I hope I'm wrong as the market needs to get cheaper than it currently is.

I suspect you are right, It will be close to £30k for the 280 mile top of the range model by the time it arrives.
