What’s the very first CD you bought / got?

First adult LP, In-a-garda-vida Iron Butterfly. Second was probably Deep Purple Made in Japan, still listen to tracks from that album today is the big hit, but Child in time gets me every time the other would have been Pinkfloyd I'd imagine .....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4BE-VusCiM Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict still brings back images of a previous life ..... no idea how I survived some of those " In another realm" weekends It only lasts for 5 mins, but I seem to remember it going on for hrs

Guess I must have been very soundtrack influenced in my teenage years

All this reminiscing has brought back so many memories, late 70’s, uni, first time away from home in a strange land ( Nottingham was a strange land ), student life, first time in a room with me mum not outside the door. Uncle had gifted me his portable record player, size of a briefcase so very portable, sound was shite but it filled my student world.

So anyhoo, girlfriend and I were having a chill out moment and she said:

“What was that album you were playing last night?”

Me:

Which one?

“The one with the plain white cover.”

“The White Album?”

“ yes, what’s it called”

“The White Album”

“BUT WHATS IT CALLED?”

We broke up shortly after. Wonder why?

Margaret, wife no3 and the keeper, merged our record collection, she had a pristine copy of Jethro Tull Thick as a Brick, my copy had so many dark fingerprints on it, I'm sure the police would have loved to get digital images these days ..... Margaret's record was also pristine, mine, it was hard to define there was a groove that went around the disc and it wasn't just a black disc with gravel rash.
There were maybe 2 records in her collection that we didn't have the same, the difference was, my collection was jammed into two milk crates, the third milk crate had the stereo amplifier and turntable to fill in the spot where there wasn't enough records to stop them falling over a buckling .....

One of the favourites that I had, but she didn't, Was Rodriguez, 3 albums, if you get a chance, watch a film called "Searching for Sugarman"

Nottingham is still a strange land. Best to be avoided if at all possible 😁

Now we're talking, Deep Purple. Possibly my favouritist band, but I have very eclectic taste. One day listening to Purple, next the Carpenters or Gilbert O'Sullivan, than back to Floyd or Zepplin. then to Simon and Garfunkel, which was actually my first real new LP purchase, Bridge Over.... cost £2.14.
