Hi all,

I’ve had my IM6 for a couple of weeks now and thought I’d share some of the issues I’ve come across. If anyone has experienced similar things, or found solutions – I’d really appreciate your input.
  • Ventilation/AC – For an EV, it takes far too long to heat up or cool down. The air conditioning feels almost non-existent.
  • Auto-lock/handles – The system feels temperamental. I don’t understand why the car doesn’t automatically present the door handles when you approach. Having to press and hold your thumb isn’t very intuitive, and sometimes it doesn’t register.
  • High beams – Surprising that a car with so much tech doesn’t have auto high beams.
  • Random alerts – Even with ADAS features switched off, the car occasionally chimes/dings at me for no obvious reason.
  • Regen braking – Not as strong as I’d like.
  • Charging cable release – No local unlock option; you can only release via the app (which is slow) or from the infotainment screen.
  • Apple CarPlay – Very laggy. Sometimes the display shows one track still playing while the audio has already moved on to the next. The controls can be unresponsive too.
  • Battery display – Can’t find any way to show charge as a percentage – it only shows range in miles.
I’ll update this thread if I spot more, but I’d be interested to hear whether other MG EV owners have come across these same issues. Are these things that might realistically be improved with software updates?

  • High beams – Surprising that a car with so much tech doesn’t have auto high beams. It does.
The MG iM6 features an auto high beam function, part of the
MG Pilot suite, which automatically switches high beams to low beams when it detects other vehicles, providing enhanced safety without manual interaction. To use this feature, ensure the high beam is set to the "AUTO" position. If you encounter issues with the auto high beam, check for any available software updates, as these can often resolve performance problems, or disable it in the vehicle's settings.
  • Battery display – Can’t find any way to show charge as a percentage – it only shows range in miles. Yes, I agree that is annoying.

Some of those are ones that you think could be fixed by a software update, although the air conditioning concerns me a bit, maybe it is faulty. High beams is really strange and not knowing the battery percentage is really annoying.

I think you have an emergency pull switch in the boot. It is hidden behind a panel I believe

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that. May I ask where you got this from please? It seems far more informative than the manual i've studied. I've tried in multiple scenarios, but the High Beams just wont activate.

Yeah, there are some questionable choices made for this car. Fingers crossed an update is soon pushed that fixes these.

Sorry, I should've clarified. I meant at the ease of convenience, not in case of an emergency.

Google. Also refers to auto high beam in the manual.

The manual also states you can unlock it with the car shaped key thingy (my words)

Regarding the AC.
I drive the first gen of Tesla Model 3 without a heatpump.
Wife drives the BYD atto3 that has a heatpump.
I am noticing significant difference between the 2 when the temperature inside the car is close to the ambient temperature.
The BYD having a heatpump takes time to decide if cold or warm air is needed to maintain the temp inside the car. It almost feels that it gets confused by the proximity of the outside and inside temperature.
I would guess that it is a heatpump 'feature' this. Curious to see how it will perform when it gets distinctively colder.

As for the charging cable release; both my Tesla and wife's BYD are the same with the IM6.
Recently Tesla introduced an update where you keep the back passengers door handle open for a couple of seconds and it unlocks the cable. Silly though since you will have to shut the door afterwards.
As for the BYD if you unlock the car with the keys it will unlock the cable. Doesn't the IM not do the same?
