What happens When a Car Company Goes Bust

So I have been listening to general stuff on the internet, and I was wondering what would happen if you bought a new car with all the bells and whistles on, connected to a company server and that company went bust, is there any protection for this or is it tough you have a brick buy another one!!!!!

Go to another dealer, of the same make.
They'll honour warrantys, service deals, etc.
Won't they? Or is that to simple? not sure only guessing.

I'm not really taking about the dealers, but the motor manufacturer, i.e. some of the smaller companies that don't make the cut. I have already had the dealer stop and did in fact change dealers.

A business that size would not go bust like that, they'd be bought over. Take Ssangyong for instance, they got themseves is serious trouble 3? years ago and were bought out, you now find tham as KGM in the UK.

Happened with Fisker, the cars still worked but had almost zero resale value as parts were only available from scrap cars. Arrival vans never made it into production but those that were built were sold off but are pretty much bricked.

As mentioned above Fisker is your example and it depends who buys up the pieces. As the car was manufactured by a 3rd party they have a commitment to supplying parts for a certain time. I did read the other day that as no one had paid the data supplier the connections were being cut off. the other issue of course being insurance when there is no dealer network, new parts being made or any safety updates being applied.

I can tell you because I bought a fisker in march ‘25. It’s another bargain of the century now, even more so than the MG4 xpower. The follow up article below is more positive. In summary, no the car is not bricked. It is just minor stuff like online remote access and free spotify and internet radio apps that stop working. Both easily replaced by an extra carplay screen. The Fisker Ocean is a great car. Huge battery, range and power which you can buy from £10k-20k. Worth that and more just for the battery.
