wind and road noise

It's a drumming noise which I think is generated from the road noise and resonates in the cabins plastic trim. I have started putting sound insulation in the boot spare wheel well (now battery) as it was just bare metal, will now be waiting for better weather before continuing, will be moving the mic. which records the sound around to see if there is any change. The test is done when I go to the local supermarket 2.3 miles form me and at 30 MPH ( 48.3 KMP). Will post any interesting results here.

My MG3 Hybrid+ Trophy is now 2 months old and it is very noisy even in town. It would be good to know how the GERMAN ADAC test were done as in was the 3 HYBRID+ Reading an average or Max. In town my readings are 81DB+ Max and 68DB+ Average, so I want to get that much lower. As Pete asked at the start of the thread has anyone been able to lower the cabin noise level?????
Thanks Dave.
How can it be noisy in town? It almost always runs in electric mode.

Thanks Pat
Still getting used to the car and what it does and doesn't, but so far it it running more on HEV and short runs on EV and was going to post a question on what EV power range is normal?, I only do short runs with every now and again 28 miles down the Motorway to our caravan.

Can you not try someone else's 3 to compare ? Or go to another MG dealer and test drive one ?
In town mine is almost silent up to 30 mph, even with the engine running for the heating. Any faster though and the din starts. Although I do feel it's a lot quieter in winter than in the summer

The noise level I get is the same HEV and EV. Went down to the Caravan to do some maintenance and got a DB reading of 83DB+at 65MPH (104.6 KMP). Have moved the sensor mic. to a lower position (was 103mm from the roof lining) It's now around knee height.

DB sound testing now all done. The readings at knee level were lower than roof level but still in the high 70's. I think most of the noise is coming due to the Cost Cutting Accountants who won't be driving a cheep MG3 and sound reduction strip were OUT. My 3 hybrid + trophy is my last car, it replaced a long line of clattering diesels and at speeds lower than 10 MPH is much quieter but not above 10 MPH. There is a lot of bare metal that will require treatment (If I can get to it) the main problem is the roof because the roof lining is stiff and suspended from the metal roof and I don't think it's going to be easy to quieten the roof down but any trim that I can remove, bare metal will be treated and that incudes behind the dashboard to help with the screaming engine. Once better weather is here I will be in full employment getting trim off and sound reduction done

Take pictures of your quest and post them up.
I don't think doing the roof will work, I did my MG ZR and it made no difference, apart from when rain hits it.
Search YouTube too, there are lots of videos on car sound proofing and I've never found one where they're really happy with the results.

I don't think the roof is the real problem it's the roof lining. We actual got some sun and I had the visor down, next trip out in the usual rain putting the visor up it slipped out of my wet fingers and the resulting noise when it hit the lining made me think VAN. I used tin can vans late 60s to early 70s and the mg3 is no better. A search for sound proofing came up with this - https://www.the-t-bar.com/forum/9-mgf-tf-pitstop/99271-sound-deadening-on-the-cheap?start=0 - an MGF form. Will post picture for any area that gives good DB reducing levels. Any reduction to the level of noise will help my ears. I now have tinnitus which i blame on a car I had in the mid 90s. Like some of the posts here around town it was OK but go quicker and a vibration started and got noisier, my solution was to turn up the radio. The higher the speed the louder the radio went but didn't turn down when I got to my destination. When I came back to the car and switched on the ignition the blast of noise hit me and the radio volume had to go down but on the way back the volume got increased again. Even then the dealer couldn't find a fault 80,K Miles later it still had the same vibration.
To be continued ASAP Dave
