So I’ve paid for my MG4 and the collection is due in a couple of weeks.

However, reading about some of the rough reviews (software issues and items breaking) I’m now wondering about using my 14 day cooling off and cancelling the order???

What’s the general thoughts? I was really excited about now I’m getting slightly cold feet about it!

Any thoughts or advise here would be welcome!!

I'll admit to having similar "wobbles". Is there a guarantee, in writing, that if the car needs to be repaired then we will be provided with a replacement?

When you say you paid for it, why? also, all new models have teething problems looks like most are software updates I'm not to bothered mine due in a couple of weeks and i am collecting 230miles away 😀

I agree with @siteguru on this one. Do you ask the same question on a relevant forum when you buy a new phone, or washing machine or hoover, I could go on, but i think you get my point.

no-one can advise you on that question and be correct, or even wise.

all new products come with issues, all come with future patches or improvements.

As my Nana would say, “if in doubt, leave it out,“. This is the only advice I can give. But I believe it would be very hard to get such a car for the monetary outlay, that would be better than the MG4.

should you choose not to go ahead (I am not sure about you saying you have paid for it, and how that would work), I feel it would be definitely your loss. My car would have to do something majorly wrong, for me not to sing its praises.

Why did I pay for it? I was told by the dealer that they were not able to hold the reservation past the end of Sep, so the only option was the pay for the car and then delay collecting it otherwise we risked losing the car.

Yes, there have been some issues (to be expected on a brand new platform) which have had me worried, but what I was pleased to hear is the way members’ dealers have treated them. Cars have been brought in to be looked at or given software updates and in the meantime, a courtesy car has been provided.

Now, if the dealers had left these fellow MG4 members high and dry I would definitely be getting cold feet, however I don’t think they can be faulted at this stage. SAIC based in China will be pinning all their hopes on the MG4 and the new ev platform it’s based on for the hugely profitable European market, so I’ve no doubt they will do everything they can to make it a success.

That is understandable and fair enough. However, what I'm concerned about is what happens if the motor is leaking oil/coolant and requires a new one that will take 3 months to arrive. In that case, could I be left without a car?

Your dealer sounds like a modern day Dick Turpin…..or a reverse Robin Hood (Truss).

No idea…. But this could be the same with any car. Most being in excess of £10K more

I had similar thoughts after reading about the rattling passenger window, but I'm sure if we're unfortunate enough to have this problem it will definitely be covered by the guarantee and it will be fixed.

Really? I thought if they were in demand this wasn’t that implausible?
- that and I’m guessing they wanted the sales figures to go in to September.
Yes, you are correct about end of September sales targets. but to demand full payment for a car that is not yet available is downright wrong. All other dealerships I am aware of, would readily accept a deposit only, to secure the car for the customer.

I think, if your dealer has insisted on full payment, that they are out of order Sir, no need for that pressure on any customer, when a deposit would suffice.

This obviously changes if the car is sat on the forecourt ready for a new home 👍

Good advice from others here.

I would only add: are you the sort of person who is happy to get the latest and greatest with a few rough edges and work through them? If you are not then you should not be buying ANY car that has just been released and should restrict yourself to models that have been on the market for 2 years and are fully debugged.

I realise the oil leak problems are unsettling but you should consider the headlines that would generated if MG did not get on top of this quickly and trust that these issues will be fixed.

I will not be cancelling my order, this is a fantastic car.

Ah….. yes sorry just to clarify, it’s sat waiting for me (I could of had it a week ago) but I’m sat in Spain as I type, so I’m not in a position to be able to collect it.

New car glitches are a permanent feature of life. Initial owners are the product testers and it's always been that way. The last new car I bought (before the MG) had a manufacturing fault that resulted in it dumping its hydraulic steering fluid on the road!

Thanks all….. I think my wobble is just that, I’m really excited about getting it and I was really impressed on the test drive, I’m just a bit of a worrier and it’s a fair amount of dosh to part with…. I’ll move forward and collect and I’ll provide a review when I’ve collected it and lived with it for a bit!
