That is a worry. Can you explain or guide to how you open boot from inside please?

There’s a long thread on this issue:

Has anyone with the problem spoken to Mg customer services to find out if they are aware and have any information yet?

My car is in at dealership on Tuesday 6th I am also going to email my for a response to see if they are aware of the problem it’s very worrying when you are unaware and how to get out the vehicle.no idea how it misread the key.but it is a good safety feature for potential theft

have to pull down rear seats there is a little flap to remove then there is a blue key hole which u need to use the key from the key fob to open.the key then goes in the driver side door to open all doors.but you then need the spare key to re power up the car which is the only issue of it does it far away from home what is the solution

Can you not use the keyless option from the app to connect to the car?

Mg technical wasn’t very helpful didn’t really know anything about the car told to put key in centre column bin as that is where the key fob recognition is that failed.the app was pretty useless at helping.the system is excellent for theft but not for day to day users mg need to incorporate the app into this procedure to deactivate this safety feature

Definitely concerning. I'm getting the trophy and would use the share key feature in the app for my dad if he needed to move the car etc but if he got locked in he'd obviously not have a key for the boot release

Thanks what a carry on. What happens if you take both keys with you, if it loses one will it pick up the other?

See this thread. Perhaps alb can merge them to avoid duplication

Note to self...if you get the key not recognised message when driving the car try to fully open drivers window before stopping....
I fully agree so u can use the key in the door handle to unlock.the car is doing what it’s intended to do to lock thieves in I think it’s a great feature.but there needs to be a safer work around so u don’t need to exit through the boot luckily I’m young and able to do so the app needs to integrate some safety into it so u can deactivate the feature

It seems the car is going into deadlock/anti-theft mode as designed by Thatcham. They will not change that easily, as it is installed across the range, so the focus has to be why this key error occurs in the first place on the MG4 with no notable reports from other MG vehicles with the same system. We have had the debate about soft lock and deadlock already to no avail. MG needs to treat this seriously but unless dealers report these incidents back to MG UK...🤷‍♂️

As linked earlier - please continue the conversation in the existing thread:

I have posted a comment therein that may be something to consider.

I saw on one of the face book groups that if you put the left indicator on and press the brake pedal firmly 3 times holding the 3rd press , that this resets the car and should allow you to open it. Now I haven't got a car myself so cannot verify, but apparently this came from an MG technician but it is not meant for general public. If this turns out to be complete BS , then sorry , but worth a try as I don't see it could do any harm.

This has been discussed and doesn't work from my understanding from the thread other have already mentioned
The purpose of the steps suggested are to put the car in transport mode, and I assume only works is the car is open as a starting point, hence no good in this situation.

That mention in the other thread does not say that it doesn't work. It says it should work in theory , which is why I said it might be worth a try.

PLEEEEEEAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
Discussion in the original thread.
PLEEEEEEAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

We're just creating more work for @Alb otherwise. :)

Correct that post doesn't, I have been following the thread and was sure someone had tried it and disproved it.
Just had a quick look and found the post that I believe is that 😉
Not trying to be negative just to try and avoid going over old ground.
There is lots of info in the other thread and lots has been tried so maybe worth looking through further to understand more.
Hence as others suggested already worth merging this with other thread, @Alb could you assist please 😊
