Hi All,

Picked up my MG5 EV on Thursday. Does anyone know what the big black strip of plastic below the rear number plate is for? It looks so out of place. I assume its for some bike rack mount or something. Some of the promotional photographs show it and some don't and I dont specifically recall if the car I test drove had it or not, although I did notice that the MG ZS EV's on the forecourt had it Thanks.

Does it cover two number plate holes in the tailgate?

You can see them during this video

And the comment on this one 11m50s in.

So you see the holes below the number plate on the first video?

It appears to be there to cover the holes

Looking at the photo's online, it might have been the HS that has the same black strip rather than the ZS.

I can only assume that different countries have different size plates. Bigger plates seem to cover the badging so they decided to move them upwards leaving the existing holes.

They wouldn’t be get first to do this

Looks awful, didn't notice it on the test drive. If there are holes I would guess there's 4 of them as some cars do have them ready for fitting a larger or square plate depending on country. I trust they plug them before covering up?
If I do decide to have mine I'll ask for a larger plate on the rear. My 2019 Discovery Sport had a bigger one on the rear tail gate and is fitted as standard (21x6 inch). No one ever really noticed.

If you look at 3m22, the holes are there but the black plastic isn't. Maybe that is why I didn't notice it. But what is it actually for?
Oops another MG cock up on their marketing material. Do they not have any proof readers/video analytics people?
Someone must be assigned to check for due diligence.

It definitely is the reason. For me it doesn’t bother me. I knew before I bought the car so I guess I knew it was there. I think it’s one of those quirky things that’ll get sorted in the future 🤔

It might also be a question to suggest for tomorrows podcast? Get some more background.
