I think I might be at my limit with this car now! Tonight driving with my daughter on a 50mph single carriage way the FCA decided to kick in and slam the brakes on the car to an immediate standstill because someone was exiting their car whilst fully parked on the pavement, not in the road at all. This was so aggressive we were both flung forward in our seats and the seatbelt hurt both our stomachs. Along with the LKA this is also a preset which comes back on over and over again & MG do not seem to be addressing this, I’ve already complained to MG UK and my dealer about the update my car had making LKA a preset which cannot be disabled now there is this one to contend with too. If you forget to turn it off it is then a distracting 4 step procedure to disable it on the move and you cannot disable FCA whilst the car is moving! Having had the issues I’ve had with my Trophy, I am now losing patience rapidly and am pretty fed up of being scared witless by my own car!

That is pretty horrendous isn't it. And it is perfectly understandable that you are losing patience with the car. Hopefully you will manage to get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

I know how this feels having endured the phantom braking in my Tesla - it is very unpleasant and unnerving, apart from very dangerous . It is so frustrating and you do get to the point where you think enough is enough and lose confidence. You just want a car to work - and not have to worry every time you drive - what next? 🙁🙁🙁

I know. My husband has the Tesla 3 and he’s said he has experienced this but only when the car is in autopilot not when he is in control of the car. I am not being dramatic when I say how scary it was, as if there was a car on my tail then it couldn’t have avoided me as you don’t normally slam on like that for no apparent reason on a quiet road. Given all the other issues I’ve been through in such a short period of time I’ve asked that the FCA and LKA are both reverted back to the version which could be permanently disabled or I will be looking at rejecting the car on the basis of safety. My dealer has been fab and done their absolute best for me but i keep hitting hurdles & MG do not seem to be responding/communicating well at all. It is spoiling an otherwise great car it’s quite sad really.

I believe there are LEVELS you can set in the settings. I always put them to the lowest and also not automatic but just warnings.

They revert back to the default each cycle though don’t they? This is part of the issue.

Don’t know about the UK versions, but in Australia, LKA on Min and FCA on min and the car is perfectly sedate.

On moderate, or anything else, it’s like a bronco at a rodeo.

My LKA didn't revert each time . I recently updated the software and still the LKA is off. I have heard a lot of people complain so now I have theory :)
I wonder if the Levels and whatnots that you have set when you do the software update become your defaults !!!! Could this be true............

It does make you wonder who tests and approves these systems during development.

Unlikely - if the car currently resets LKA etc. as soon as it goes into READY mode, then those settings will be there when the software updates are done.

UNLESS software updates are done with the car powered but NOT in READY mode?

Hmmm…I had a theory the car needed to be in a certain state for the settings to stick better than those charges from years ago. Reason for this theory - settings were set in multiple states until I realised they had stuck like glue to a wombats wings.

The release notes on the latest update to LKA specifically state that post update the setting for LKA will revert to default (on) upon restart of car

Release notes? Where are they?
The release notes that my dealer showed me after they had updated my car on 6/1/23 they wouldn’t let me take copy.

Knowing what we know about the greatness of MGs instruction, I read that line as meaning ‘if you have deactivated LKA, it will restart when you restart the car, but only if option 37.1.9(a) has been selected in the unactived version.

The modular way MG seem to configure the software would suggest that this could just be changed with a setting during update - but it won’t of course.

Correct. Some owners on previous software it will stay off and some it wont. If you get the same update I got on 6/1/23 then it will switch back on every time.

MG seem to have moved swiftly to reinstall a ‘safety’ function that no one wanted to be reinstalled. Whilst still giving customers new cars with oil leaks.

In this update, were there any other great achievements unlocked (my car is due in next month)

*edit - grammar
