EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Yeah, the Gridserves are individual units, they just seem to install them in sixes and twelves, usually.

But what I actually came to say was, here we go again.

I heard there had been another airport car park fire, in Bristol, and simply typed "Bristol airport" into the Twitter search bar. Of the top results that came up, about 70% of them were suggesting or hinting or even claiming the car was an EV. Or saying "that will be a diesel again" in nudge-nudge wink-wink tones.

Speculation that EVs will be banned from car parks...

This was on our local ITV news. The speed at which the fire was extinguished indicates that it was fossil fuel burning, not a chemical fire.

Tesla Superchargers come in pre-fabricated blocks ready for installation, as far as I am aware they are the only ones that do this to streamline installation. Other fit in as many individual units as they can.

Yes, they are way ahead on manufacturing and this is why they can install so many so quickly - and keeps the cost right down.

The big delays though are all down to supply connection to the grid and planning - issues Tesla have no control over.

Although, they are using the megapacks to make installation easier, quicker, and cheaper.

Edit: Just remembered Bob Llewellyn interviewing Toddington Harper at Braintree, and he said they have battery storage for their solar and wind farm. :)

Mustn't forget that Gridserve inherited the Ecotricity network when it bought them out. These were generally in ones and twos and were very unreliable. Their first priority was to replace the existing stock with new more reliable chargers, hence still locations with only those.
I'm sure they would like to put more in but as we know it's not always possible due to other issues.

That has not stopped the "obviously an EV" contingent.

Good grief.

Antisocial behaviour. People doing things they shouldn't. One councillor apparently said something about "a recent incident at Luton Airport involving an electric car."

Some people are just beyond stupid.

@Rolfe

Living not very far from Stamford, which is a very beautiful town with many historic buildings and often used as the location for TV Period Dramas, I know the "locals" are very "protective" of it. I think I'm right in saying they refuse to allow fast food companies, e.g., McDonalds, to open there! (That may, or may not be a good thing!)

But to block the installation of chargers for very spurious "reasons" really beggars belief. I wonder if the local residents are almost exclusively owners/drivers of Chelsea Tractors and so rather despise EV owners?

Well I can only say that a couple of years or so ago I found myself in the charge hub / park and ride facility at Castle View Stirling. There I met up with a world wide MG group (well Scotland wide🤩)
Having arranged a coffee and chat meeting we did tons chatting and forgot about coffee.
I didn’t find any of it intimidating at all 🤣🤣

And probably all Daily Fail readers. :)

I think there are a couple of reasonable points. It would be better to use a brownfield site if one is available, and isolated charging stations make women drivers (in particular) feel very unsafe. While the individual "village-green" type charging stations are valuable, I would like to see many more electric forecourts with shelter and human presence.

Are all the coded references to "people ... doing things they shouldn’t be" and "undesirable behaviour after dark" supposed to mean dogging/cottaging? I hadn't really considered that as an activity while waiting for a charge but maybe there's an untapped market for EV adoption here?

I was wondering that too...

Not opposition, but this was quite funny. I was doing Duolingo German lessons, and in one of them "Eddy" was in trouble because he couldn't get his hire car to start. "Vikram" came along to help and after some exchanges Vikram told Eddy that the motor was already running, the car had started. Eddy said he couldn't hear anything. Vikram explained that it was an EV and they're very quiet ("Sehr leise.")

Never mind all the holes in this story, the punchline was that Eddy said he'd just put petrol in the car. Vikram said, where? (I was waiting to find out the German for "charging port".) In the boot, says Eddy.

Duh. German people put petrol in their cars in the boot?

Makes sense really - it holds more 🤦‍♂️

Years ago when I worked in the steelworks we had some German machinery installed. There was a sign inside the control cabinet that on first glance was assumed serious but ignored. When I read it it though it made me laugh........

"It was an electric car" in 3... 2... 1...

The article doesn't say what type of car it was and the numberplate is engulfed in flames. There's no sign that this happened as a result of an accident - it looks like a spontaneous fire.

Either nothing more will be heard of it because it was an ICE car and that's not newsworthy, or someone will start a conspiracy theory that it was an EV, and this will grow like Topsy when the police say that it was an ICE car. Wild allegations of a cover-up.

Least likely possibility, it was really an EV.
The A9 is popular this December for bonfires it seems.
A kia:oops:, but an ice one - it's a sedona.
