Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have just used the timer app on podpoint,I plugged the car in at 8pm set the time for 00:45 until 02:45 to give approx 90% charge.I unplugged at 10:am. When I checked the stats on podpoint app it had put 18.5 kwh in and charge duration of 14 hours.
I know it must have charged for more than the 2 hours I set it for, to have put 18.5 kwh in, but it obviously starts and ends when cable is plugged and unplugged, so cannot confirm by time duration. Has anyone else tried the timer function, if so what was your experience like?
Thanks

Hi - welcome. Podpoint measure duration from start time of charge to when the cable is unplugged as you say. I know - it’s illogical but thats what the app shows. A 2 hour charge should add just under 14kwh so I can’t explain the 18.5kwh - unless you had an additional chatge that day as it adds them together.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I guess I will do a 2 hour charge during the day, and see if it goes over 2 hours.

Hi Shippo - here's my experience with the timed charge on the Pod Point app

Has anyone else had any issues with a failed charge overnight? During beta testing it all worked fine for me. I’ve now had two failed overnight charges. I got in my car this morning and - no charge! very annoying meaning that i have needed to modify my day. I plugged the car in at 7pm last night and I set the timed charge for 00.30-04.30 - didn’t happen. I’ve now just set timed charge for 07.00-11.00 and it’s charging!

I've not used it yet, do you set the charge times then plug the car in or plug the car in then set the charge times (or does it not matter which) ?

My timed charges are usually already set up on the podpoint phone app so i just plug the car into the wallbox and lock the car. I have also changed the times on the app with the car plugged in and it’s always worked fine for me until now... i was a beta tester for podpoint app.

A couple of things I’m considering;

the last failed charge the car was very low on juice - I wonder if it went into some sort of deep sleep due to this and didn‘t wake up for the scheduled charge? I plugged car in at about 6pm with 15miles range and 1 bar showing.

when it failed on the other occasion, I plugged the car in at about 3pm with a longer lead time than usual before the scheduled charge at 00.30 (so about 9.5hrs) - again I wonder if this means that it couldn’t be woken due to the time asleep?

i’m guessing here with these suggestions.
i’ve tried a couple of successful timed charges today. Now set a charge for 5pm and will see if that works from 11am when i set it up.

I will of course also speak to podpoint but I have experience of them and I know that I need to try a few things myself first!

The issue is that you become reliant on it working overnight and it’s so annoying when you have to rearrange everything because your car hasn’t charged! 🙁🙁🙁

I might have crossed into the Twilight Zone because my car also failed to charge last night!

I returned after driving 60 miles (started with a full battery) and plugged it in at 9.45pm. I had set up a charge from 12.15am for 9 hours (just to see if it would charge then) but the wallbox was showing a blue light (standing by to charge) and immediately started charging, when I plugged it in.

I left the car alone and set up the same timed charge but for Tuesday morning and when I got into the car today, the car had only added another 2% of charge but had not charged overnight.

However, the wallbox is now showing a green light (charging) but that was the case the last time I plugged it in and successfully achieved a timed charge, so I'm expecting it to charge tonight 🤞

The app obviously doesn't immediately update the wallbox and, as Cocijo has said previously, it gets itself in a muddle and doesn't charge!

I had enough charge to go out and do my stuff but I'm guessing there's still some glitches that need to be sorted out and, until they do, I think I'll try and not run the car down very low (or at least leave me with enough range to get me to a nearby rapid charger!).

Interesting - thanks for sharing. The irritating thing is it was working fine during beta testing! For around 3 weeks it worked fine charging 00.30-.4.30 each night.
When mine has failed - the app has shown the next charge time confirmed as when i saved it (so in this instance it says next scheduled charge 00.30) - but still didn’t charge . I haven’t looked at the wall box light. I‘ve emailed podpoint and will follow up with a call. Irritating 🧐 I’m on version 3.8.0 (898) of the podpoint app on ios.

Update; my 5pm timed charge worked fine. I set this at 11am this morning and car has been standing locked and unused since then. So, it looks like its the overnight passed midnight charges that can have issues?

That was what I was thinking as well! Since the app went public, I suspect there's been an adjustment somehow, of when the 'day' starts. Obviously, it should be midnight but it wouldn't surprise me if this is causing issues and it may be later.

When I get the chance, I may see if I can set a charge for 11.30pm for 3 hours and see if that works?

It's a shame - I had high hopes. Still, I've got another week before I can move power suppliers so I'm not really losing anything at the moment. Hopefully, it'll be sorted by the time I switch suppliers.

I’m sure that they will eventually sort it out. It’s already taken over 2 Years for them to develop timed charging on the app!

Hi,1st may I say thanks, To you 2 Bloggsy and Cocijo for your input into my charge timer dilemma, may I add that my version is 3.0.8 (933) android and my timers work perfectly if they are scheduled for the same day, but as yourselves its after midnight when it does not charge,I have also rang podpoint to make them aware... once again thanks

Great. Let’s hope they get it sorted. Btw how did you get on when you spoke with them? Did they accept that they have an issue?

I’m going to give the 00.30 start time one more go tonight - I’m home tomorrow so it it fails it’s not such an issue as today was. If it fails I’ll resort to 23.59 start time and see if that works! Interested to see how the 11.30pm start time goes 👀

When is your Octopus switch?

When is your Octopus switch?

I can switch suppliers from next week but unsure who to go for just yet. Octopus is the front runner but also interested in EDF and I'll need to check with other companies to see if there's anything in their pipelines!
