As someone who is struggling with a Honor 50 android phone for many years, I am also in the market for an upgrade. I am facing several issues of Honor phone with Android Auto as It fails to connect very often. I also want to use a phone with wireless charging to make use of the MG S5's...
Exactly my own experience as well. Notwithstanding the cost savings, the car was simply superb on the motorway, never once gave me any reason to think otherwise. I felt safe, secure, comfortable and in control all the way through. I could never say that of my previous ICE BMW on which I have...
Agree with you that practically speaking, there may not be cost savings but tbh, you rarely do such a long journey and for shorter trips, the charging stops are eliminated mostly.
I used the IONITY Power subscription that costs £10 per month and gives you the lowest public charging rate of 43p per KWh. All the Ionity chargers are 350 KWh although in reality, I was getting a throughput of around 120 KWh. I spent around 25 mins on average at each stop. I had added my credit...
Yes, I saved around 30% as compared to an ICE car. Perhaps spent more time on charges but I timed the charging stops with coffee and lunch breaks so it was all good
I just completed my first long distance drive from Newcastle to Southampton and back. You can read my post about my plans before the journey

I drove at the top legal limit but most of the route had variable speed limits and there were road works going on as well. Depending on your setting the adaptable cruise control also slows you down from doing a constant speed.
If you have not seen my earlier post on my charging plan, please do so first Long motorway round trip in MG S5EV – practical charging strategy & costs. This update is on the real world data based on my completed journey.
Update after completing the trip – what worked and what didn’t

Is there any way to turn the orientation of the Sat Nav map similar to Google Maps. It's quite disconcerting while following the direction on the map when you are moving forward and the map is moving downwards.
On a totally separate note, does the MGS5 Trophy (is it called something else down under) in Australia come with a panoramic sun roof? I recall seeing some reviews on YT.
Is it a pretty straightforward process to use the Ionity charger? I guess you just scan the QR code and then start charging. Does the payment go out directly through the app?
This is exactly my own understanding which is why I opted for the montly subscription. I can cancel once I complete my trip and I won't be charged going forward. I think Ionity is a great option because the subscription based charges are the lowest I could find and their chargers are 350 KW as...
This will be my first long distance road trip as well and my understanding is that many public chargers don't accept contactless payments. Hopefully, my IONITY app will work as it is supposed to. Will post my experience once I return
Sharing my approach to planning a long motorway journey in an my MGS5 Trophy, (Newcastle to Southampton and back), in case it helps others thinking about similar trips.
Key assumption (important):
Based on real use, I’m seeing about 160 miles at 80%, which means a realistic ~200 miles at 100%...
I did try to connect my phone through the USB but it still returns the same error. The funny thing is that it does work occasionally. My car is just a month old so I am pretty sure the infotainment software version would be the latest.
So, I have been using Android Auto with my new MGS5 and about 80% of the time, it does not work. It gives an 'oops, something went wrong' error. It works at times and I have tried everything from reinstalling android auto to deleting the cache but nothing seems to fix the issue. I could not find...
