That is really helpful - thanks so much. Yes, it seems impossible to get dealers to say anything about updates carried out. When my service was done I couldn't get any info about what was done - I gave up asking for the Tesla update, but I thought they weren't doing that as standard anyway...
Intersting. Perhaps that's the case for me - I had a service in Jan 2025 too.. So are you saying that's a consistent thing you saw immediately after the service? I rarely use Rapid chargers so have only just seen this happening.
I just don't know. I certainly didn't experience any issues starting a charge on rapids on previous trips. My MG5 Trophy is a late 2021 model.
I'm unsure as to whether it is a hardware (pins getting rusty, not connecting well enough) or software issue.
Certainly, locking the car to get the...
I tested it last weekend with a Gridserve DC Charger. First time it didn't connect. I then got the kids out of the car, locked it, then tried again. It connected fine.. good to know it helps but I still think it shouldn't be necessary..
If you're not there for long then definitely go for the CCS DC plug - Rapid charging will get you properly full in an hour or so.
Any AC charging will add around 10% / hour (7kW vs 11kW makes a difference but you're still not going to fill your battery in 2 hours).
Thanks - that's interesting and agrees with many of the previous comments. Because the kids were in the car I didn't generally lock it first, Next time I will definitely try the following:
1. Connect the charging cable to the car socket
2. Lock the car so the charge port locks
... then do the...
Thanks for the responses - very helpful.
I will try plugging in and locking first and see if that makes a difference. Main issue is that I rarely need to do en-route rapid charging so it will probably be another 6 months before I have to try it.
I have my original battery but the voltage...
Hi all. It's been a while since I last did a long trip. Last week I did a longish road trip through France so had to use rapid chargers quite a lot
I've previously done this without any issues - apart from the usual hassle of using apps vs charge cards etc. My favourite one to use in France has...
I agree with @Jaumg . Follow the steps specified by the charger - some tell you to plug in first, others get you to initiate first, then plug in etc. I also suggest you call the charger's helpline if you have a problem - they all should have responsive helplines these days and are often able to...
Ionity Chargers have always been pretty consistently good for me - but no recent experience I must admit. I've used their app which is one of the few ones that let me see the real time charge as I sip my coffee..
I just returned from a trip and installed another two apps - Shell and Instavolt -...
Haven't measured it, but it's fairly tight. I find my cable bag fits in OK but it definitely is snug and certainly won't move about. I see no need to use velcro.
Yes, that's what I do at the moment
I get what you're all saying - I haven't bothered getting one either until now. Not getting many people selling me the benefits of the bought ones!
One reason to buy might have been that they could be deemed acceptable by MG dealers, but it seems that pretty...
Hi all. I've seen a few posts from people who have done DIY frunks, but little about the ones that are available for sale now.
I see EV Accessories Ireland now have one for the MG5
Under Bonnet solutions for your electric car - costing Euro 150
There is also one from Frunk AT
MG5 Electric frunk...
