The Ultimate MG5 "Real World" Energy Consumption Thread

It's been pretty chilly up here in Cumbria, minus 10 one morning last week 😬 but my LR has been averaging between 3.3 and 3.7 depending on the type of journeys. It's a big drop from the low to high 4s (and sometimes 5) that I get in warmer temperatures but nothing like some others seem to be...

The Ultimate MG5 "Real World" Energy Consumption Thread

Well exactly 12 months ago today I got the train from Carlisle to Portsmouth, and drove back in my 21-plate ex-demonstrator MG5EV LR Exclusive, having zeroed the long tripmeter. Just over TWELVE thousand miles (not TWO thousand, as it doesn't give the 5th digit but does keep counting) and 4.1...

The Ultimate MG5 "Real World" Energy Consumption Thread

It has always troubled me that the motoring press quote 3.6 miles per kW/h for the MG5 EV, especially as it's likely that they probably had one to test for a week at most. So when I bought my 2nd MG5, a Long Range Exclusive, on 30th December 2021 I deliberately zeroed the long memory screen and...

    Hesitation

Get them to do a software reinstall at your service. Ask the technician to road test it if he doesn't believe you. It shouldn't hesitate in any driving mode.

    Hesitation

I've never experienced that in either of my 5s, the power is instant and unfaltering. I'd be taking it back to the dealership for a software check.

    Miles/kWh

I agree. Also a larger capacity battery has greater voltage stability than a smaller one, so less amps are drawn to give the required number of watts. I've even noticed this between my first 5 SR and current 5 LR. My 5 is coming up to the reset point on the long memory screen, I zeroed it the...

No I gave it a 15% squirt at Scotch Corner mindful of the pull up Stanmore, which obviously cost me the drop in miles/kWh. Good job I did looking at the 4% left 😄 Edit - just got the gridserve bill for the top-up, £4.64. Considering my car runs entirely from the sun (and a bit of Tesco 😄)...

    Miles/kWh

Adee it has taken a while, but my LR finally got a good run today and the magic "5.0" appeared at approaching 200 miles 🙂

Bit of a jaunt out today, typical figures for a decent run. Might have cut it a bit fine getting back though 😄 My long-memory screen is coming up to the point where it resets at 9,999 miles so I'll post that picture later this month. That will be proper "real world" miles per kilowatt hour 🙂

Year old car 60k on clock would you buy ?

Nevertheless it bodes well for those including myself with lower mileage 5s. It's generally accepted that mileage AND age can cause battery degradation, so at least on a 21 plate age isn't an issue 🙂

Year old car 60k on clock would you buy ?

It's actually refreshing to see one with that mileage still going well with good battery health! Plus you still have a reasonable chunk of warranty left for any wear and tear items to be fixed. I'll be interested to see the first one with 100k on the clock, and hear how reliable it is and what...

Even more impressed after test drive

Sadly I didn't have any tape measure with me 😄 I think you're correct - it doesn't "feel" enough like a RWD car for my liking. They've probably set it up as such due to the vast majority of everyday drivers being used to (and probably expecting) a FWD experience, BMW owners being a notable...

Even more impressed after test drive

I too test drove an MG4 Trophy during the week, and whilst I'm likely to be in a minority, I was frankly disappointed with certain aspects of it. Don't get me wrong, it's a good car, and I've ordered one! But I imagine my wife will be driving it more than I will. For a start, the steering wheel...

    Solar and battery storage

I've been solar charging my MG5EV for the last 6 months using a cheap bank of 16 leisure batteries, works well. 18 250w ex-farm panels £50 each and a hybrid 5kw/10kw burst charge controller / inverter. Generates about 15-20 kw/h per sunny day, runs the car and the house so I only pay a standing...
