I had to pry mine open with a flat head screwdriver on one occasion - it did the trick and I avoided marking the plastic. Make sure the car is unlocked first of course.

Problem solved. When the car is locked, the charging cover also still locks.

Unfortunately our car is now out of warranty due to its mileage. Whole bumper section needing to come off is insanely frustrating and ill considered by MG imo. This started about 10 days ago.
