Charging port cover not closing

i even went to the effort of removing the engine cover on the weekend to see if i could lubricate the rear of the pin, but couldnt find anyway to get to the other side of the charge port without going to the effort of removing the bumper

I've just noticed that the warranty on the charge port door has been increased to THREE years. Until recently, it was only one year.

I've booked mine in for checking this week. (It doesn't unlock, so I removed my locking pin. I'll replace it prior to dropping it at the dealer, but not before taking the precaution of charging to 100%.)

We've JUST past the 3 years !!

Sadly ....has now FAILED.... Now the dam thing is STUCK SHUT. I note that it's now also ONE mouth out of warranty!...
Wondering how to open and instal the magnetic tape.

I had to pry mine open with a flat head screwdriver on one occasion - it did the trick and I avoided marking the plastic. Make sure the car is unlocked first of course.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, anyone got instructions how to remove the locking pin?

Mines got worse now so looking to use the magnets but the pins at the moment latching it closed (which i can't then open without a large thump) so if I can remove locking pin that would help

I think you have a facelift? It's a bayonet fitting - grip the pin, turn it anti-clockwise and pull it out. You don't need magnets - the flap has a spring which holds it in the closed position. To open it, grip it at the bottom right and pull.

Sorry I should have specified. It's a pre face-lift I have.

Slight change of plan, I think I have found the actuator as a spare part, now all I need to establish is how to get the charge flap off.

I think it's the whole front that comes off, but pointers welcomed how I can get to the back of the charge port?

Very pleased to say the actuator turned up and it was a perfect match. Took me about an hour to drop the bonnet off, change the actuator and put it all back together.
Grand total of £13 and it's good as new.

I'll do a proper writeup when I get a chance, but I'm well chuffed.
Amazing work, nice one.

Ful write up of where you found the part, and how you fitted it would be incredibly welcome. Thank you :)

sorry for the delay, but i did my writeup here (was easier to start a new thread, hope that doesnt break any rules!)

After managing for a while with duct tape we finally got round to putting on magnets using the same kit you used today. It was a little bit tricky because I think our flap is a bit misaligned. However we managed to make it work by sticking one magnet ontop of another (IE doubling up). One way of making sure the magnets are aligned is to glue the magnet to the side of the charging socket first. Then put the attracting magnet on top of that. Then peal off the self adhesive on the back of that magnet. Then close the cover so that the magnet sticks onto the flap with the self adhesive glue in exactly the right spot on the charging flap.

Thanks for sharing your method @Padaung !

@3sheds , very good of you to share your method of aligning the magnets. I had used the same method, but I forgot to write it down in my earlier post.

Another update!

The cable tie I'd attached to help pull open the flap has snapped. My guess is a stress fracture occurred from the wind buffeting and repeated pulling of the tie to open the cover. I fitted it in the winter too, so the cold weather may have sped up the fracture process.

Anyway, I've now made my third attempt to find a good solution for opening the cover. After the cable tie had broken, I did find that I could use my finger tips to pull the flap open, but I wanted something to pull if required. The magnets are strong enough to keep the flap closed until the port locks when the car is locked or starts, the bond is weak enough to prise with fingers, but I did think that in cold weather this may be more tricky and also sometimes the cap seals more securely and does need more of a tug to open.

Anyway, I removed the cable tie stub and attached some garden twine I had in the shed (the non-eco stuff made from PPE plastic - I'll be compost long before it has biodegraded) Some decoration was added to the twine as you can see in the photos. I made the mistake of it being legible when the charging flap is open, it's back to front once it is closed. I sealed the ends of the twine with super glue to help prevent the knots coming undone.
