MG4: Long journey charging: what can we expect?

I have had my Mk1 ZSEV since June 2021 and planning is the key thing.

My first long journey was from Sheffield to Bamburgh and I planned it carefully using Zap Map. There were no issues. However on the return journey I had to revert to my back up plan as the car would not charge at Wetherby services.

I would also advise you that reading the comments regarding charging sites on Zap Map can be useful. In April I drove from Sheffield to Dumfries. I had planned to stop at Scotch Corner but someone had commented that they were very busy so they drove to a new charging site in Bishop Auckland instead.

I made this my charging stop instead. It was excellent. Eight chargers, none were being used so I charged to 100%. It was the same on the return journey.

Happily come the end of the year, when I will have my new LR MG4, I will not have to worry about planning journeys as much.
That's really helpful. I'm now making a detour to Bishop Auckland the day after tomorrow. Heartfelt thanks!

Agreed. You can go above 80% but the rate of charge s l o w s down making 20 to 80 the fast charge sweet spot.

The MG4 might be able cope with a higher rated rapid charger and may not drop the charge rate until nearer 100%.

I understand that you're in Devon, but if you ever plan to drive in Scotland, paying the £10 for an RFID card from ChargePlace Scotland is a must. They operate the overwhelming majority of public chargers up here, with reasonable coverage from the Borders to Shetland. Although the number is steadily declining and will inevitably reach zero at some point, a useful percentage of CPS chargers are free, including even a few rapid ones.

If only 6.6kw ac inverter is fitted that would be disappointing. Most manufacturers have now upped to a around 11kw to match basic public charging rates....
Which are the majority of manufacturers selling their cars in the UK that come with 11kW AC charging ? I thought it was only the Renault Zoe.

Most in Europe have 11kW because they have 3 phase domestic electricity, only a very few domestic properties have that here in the UK.

The Zoe actually has 22kW AC charging.
Other European-built cars either have it as standard or an option.

What I meant was that those cars either have or can option 11kW AC when bought in the UK

Handy if you shop at Aldi, as they've been fitting 22kW AC chargers at new branches.
Which cars have the option when bought in the UK ?

I thought the 11kW AC was only for European LHD models, not RHD UK models?
The manual (just released) says the different battery types support different AC levels. Type 1 Battery does both 6.6kW and 11kW and Type 2 Battery does 6.6kW only. It doesn't say what the types are but from their power rating LR should do 11kW and SR 6.6, IF the manual is right!

I’m confused
MG ZS trophy SR

I bought a 22kw 3 phase wire
Plugged into what I belived (according to google etc) to be a 22kw charge point

But was only getting 7kw (6.89 ave)

So can the car get a 22kw in the top connector
Is the wire potential the wrong one (Amazon order and wrong item)
The charge point not the power stated?

MG4 Standard Range only supports 7kW type 2 charging. Manual says Long Range can do 11kW but yet to be confirmed.
