MG ZS Steering Fault - clicking when turning

Been experiencing slight knock on steering column, gradually getting more frequent. Booked in for check at local MG dealer, after test drive a new steering column has been ordered (back order)
Dealer has confirmed car safe to drive! anybody else experienced same problem?
I have noticed this too on my Trophy LR….was thinking I was imaging it. Will give my dealer a call 👍🏻

Did it cure the knock on your old ZS ICE successfully by replacing the whole steering column ?.
The knocking noise appears to be travelling "UP" from the lower end of the steering column assembly.
The firmly believe that the knocking noise will be being omitted from either, one or both of the UJ joints.
The upper steering column shaft, is generally supported at each end by a fairly simple plastic type top and bottom bush arrangement.
The UJ joints are located at a very lower end of the steering column.
This double ended UJ joint, enables the mechanical transition between the end of the steering column and into the entry point of the steering rack.
The angle required between both steering components, is very steep and offset.
This therefore necessitates the need of two UJ joints to overcome the difficult connection angle of both items.
This type of UJ joint system has been widely used on cars over the years.
What is very uncommon, is to witness a failure like this so early in the cars life span.
Hi all, I took mine in the the dealership 2 1/2 months ago with a creaking sunroof and steering column. They said they couldn'e hear the sunroof noise (deaf b**gers) but they said it needed a new column. They do ring every week to tell me its on order but not arrived. The roof still rattles, never mind wont be a problem with future MGs.

Steering noise ZS2: 3/10 hello MGs it's been a week since I made the modification, no more grip points or noise in the direction 😁😁😁😁 the problem comes from the U-shaped washer which had to rub on the fixed frame 💲 intervention 10 min 😅 lower the steering wheel to the maximum low Remove the top cover of the steering wheel, it comes on its own A 13 mm flat key on the firm side inclined not the U Unscrew the 2 black screws of 1 cm Move the 2 U-shaped washers circled in red towards the direction Tighten and close everything 😊 enjoy

Sorry - Can you break this solution down a little more please ???.
I can't understand why the U shaped clips are causing the problem, can you expand on your fix ?.
Thanks !.

what I notice is that when they are moved there is no longer this contact iron against iron I have done 300 kms no more noise

Just got mi e back from the dealers today after it went in this morning for a knocking sound from the column.

They are ordering a new universal joint and then car will be booked back in for that when it arrives.
Premature failure of the lower steering column universal joint is well documented problem, more common on the Gen 1 cars, but is starting to filter down into the Gen 2 model.
The wait starts now for a replacement column !.

Can anyone find out what the failure rate is for this part? It seems quite common which is worrying for such a safety critical item.

There is another very extensive thread on this issue on the forum.
It contains detailed info of the owners affected by this and a list / record of the different part number of each item that has issues.
A quick search will soon find it !.

Can you link to the thread and who is documenting it? Can't find it in search

Cant find it neither.

Is this problem dangerous? Safety always nr.1.

So sad the MG cars have problems like these.

Search for "steering" - I believe this is the thread people were following unless there's another:

Still waiting on the replacement part. It's been four months now. MG Hyde give me the same feedback "it's on back order, we'll call you when it arrives" but don't feel safe driving it as it's so loud now.

I'm still waiting as well, ordered on the 26/6/2022, the clicking has not got worse, but there is a small amount of slack which is worrying as I have heard that the UV joints have been known to break.
