MG4 Trophy LR
Had contacted the local dealer about buying a touch up pen for my orange trophy and been told they no longer sell touch up kits for new cars. Can get the black paint for the roof as its been previously used on other cars but they cant provide the orange colour. Good thing i know a good paint specialist.

As long as you have the paint code you should be able to get an exact match with a reputable paint sales team. Fingers crossed you find a match.

I have contacted 3 companies and have been told that they can't supply as yet.

Paintnuts just refunded my money without explanation.

Thankyou for your enquiry.
I'm sorry this colour hasn't been formulated on our system yet. Apologies, hope you get sorted.

Chipex cant supply either as theyre waiting on PPG supplying the correct mixture to them.
My local paint supplier can scan the paint for the correct colour mix so trying them later in the week.

I have been trying to order a white touch up pen kit. Ordered and paid for twice to then be contacted and told the product is no longer available and then sent a refund. Frustrating.
If you want the OEM MG Artic White ( if that is your paint code of NDW ) set, then he is a link on Ebay.
You could drop them a message first BEFORE you place your order in order to check on the stock levels.

Here is a third party alternative ?.

I have a similar issue with my Orange Trophy. 6 chips on the bonnet, 4 look like they're through to metal. I've taken it to a repair place, who checked and said that MG still hasn't released the formula for the paint, so there's nothing they can do yet. In fairness to them they phoned MG who told them this.

You had this exact same issue over 2 months ago, did you get anywhere with resolving it?

Does anyone know, if I have to leave it until they can source the paint, is possible rust an issue in modern cars? Or does that take many months of exposure for it to be a risk?

Might be an idea to use a rust preventative primer until the proper paint becomes available.

Jury is still out on how much zinc coated steel is used on the 4. I haven't seen any rust forming on bonnet stonechips in this dry weather, but a roof one on mine rusted like hell over the winter.
Think I can categorically say that the roof panel is not galvanised for sure.

www.Paintnuts.co.uk were fantastic in getting me a "volcano Orange" touch up stick, I tried many including the bigger names who had this as the default answer, these guys did some research off their own back & found the EU colour "fizzy Orange" as it's called and made me one up which is the exact same, why they change the colour names for diff markets I don't know but I really couldn't praise them enough.

Im staggered at how clueless some dealers & mainly MG UK head office are about reasonable, you'd think quite common Q's, after ringing them once about a warranty issue on my old 5, that was comical but that's another story..... I've used a few touch up sticks in the past with awful colour match and the nib dries up etc. I've used this a few times now when I see one & it's fresh every time & a great match, was less than £15 I think too.

Thanks, I have a Camden grey model and a lot of places don't seem to have the colour avaliable, I'll give paintnuts a try and test it on a non visible part first.

Going picking up the dynamic red kit from these later. Darwen based about 20 minutes from me. I've never tried touching up car bodywork before so this will be a first.

Any tips from anyone? Other than the cocktail stick mentioned above. Chip isn't tiny so I expect I'll need to use the brush 😩

I’ve always used a set of artists / model brushes in the past, as they come in various sizes, a lot of which are quite pointed which is ideal for stone chips

Edit - if using an artist / model brush, try to put an amount of paint on the tip that roughly matches the area you need to cover, then simply touch the centre of the chip gently and allow the paint to flow off the brush onto the chip. Remove the brush at that point and allow it to settle rather than trying to brush it, as that will give you the nicest finish, certainly from what I’ve found in the past anyway.

I needed some touch up paint for my Holborn blue Trophy. Unfortunately Paintnuts were unable to help but I have now sourced some from Chipex. A little on the expensive side but at least I got some.
