Good morning

one more question that hopefully someone has an answer to.
Does anyone know how to remove the aero covers hubcaps from the new mgzs? this sits on a real alloy rim, the comfort version rim that I quite like. You can easily pull off a normal hubcap, but I can't get these caps off. can anyone help me with that?

I took mine off 2 days ago for the first time. Just went round each gap, fingers in and giving a pull at the top. One side of the gap is stiffer than the other, that's the clip side so pull that one. If the clip doesn't budge try another gap. You can feel the clips move and once released a bit you can get your fingers behind to pull out. I was worried that the cold would make the plastic brittle, so went carefully and the plastic was more flexible than I expected. There are instructions in the manual.

Have a quick read of this thread from a few months ago.
If you are removing the trims when the ambient temperature is low, be careful as these trims have been known to split and are not cheap to replace.

I wanted to remove them and leave the aluminum rims as they are, but now I saw that the center cap is missing 😔 so I clicked them back.

Inflating the tires is also not easy with those hubcaps.

Someone on here posted some 3rd party MG centre caps they bought for the same reason.

Inflation is very hard, especially with the supplied pump, You lose what feels like several psi when trying to unscrew it. I decided to take the trims off to inflate the tyres

Thank you for this!
We had a low pressure warning come up on our way home late last night, so pulled over at a service station to inflate it…
Well ! ! What a hassle!! Couldn’t get my fingers into unscrew the cap as the trims were covering it! After a lot of cursing & mutterings, I had to give up!!
Managed to get home safely & today I’ve had to do a lot of jiggling & wriggling around to undo the cap, but, eventually sorted! Was an absolute nightmare!! I’m just hoping that the tyre stays inflated as I don’t fancy going through all this again too soon lol

Getting them short valve caps off can take ages !.
What can make lift a little easier, is to fit the longer reach caps.
At least you can get your fingers around them.

Just taken mine for a service and asked them to take them off for me, interestingly the garage said , they don’t arrive with them on, the garage fits them before sale.

Apparently (read somewhere on the forum) the covers go on a certain way. one of the openings is flatter and this opening should be where the tyre valve is? I have not checked but I have read this somewhere on this forum.

Yes,didn’t fancy removing them myself as I believe there quite expensive if you break a clip. At now I can inflate the bloody tyres

As of the last thread, the aero covers are about £50 each.
The securing clips are fairly strong and therefore, when pulling on one side of the trim, they have been known to crack / split.

Yes, there is "right way" to fit the wheel covers, not that my new car came with them fitted correctly! I managed to get them off, very carefully to avoid damage and noted that there is a symbol on the back of the covers indicating where the valve should be so no reason why they shouldn't have been fitted correctly in the first place! I greased all the clips before refitting the covers, hopefully that will assist future removal. The valves are a little easier to access now but still a bit challenging.

Yep, had to rotate mine correctly in order to have less diffifculty in accessing the valve cap & air fill at the servo. I also bough this up with my dealer/service centre so that they might correct this in their usual pre-flight checks prior to delivery - clearly these are not usually correctly factory fitted.

Or I should say, was initally assisted by my son who is all over cars, restoration and general mechanical ability. Now, removing the hub caps seems so obvious and easy once he showed me how: place both hands on either side of the hubcap & as close as possible to the centre of the wheel. Pull. Easy.
