Hello all

Picked up my MG4 from a dealer on Monday and am delighted with it so far.

But I think the car is still bound to the previous owner. I have dropped the dealer an email but haven’t heard back.

Is there a way of knowing for sure?

I have tried resetting to factory settings (twice) but when I log in on the car using my MG details, the account screen shows

Hi, MG Smart
Vehicle name, EmmaMG4

So I guess it is bound? Can they see the cars location? The car came with only one key so that raises an obvious concern.

I trust the dealer and have every confidence they will help me, but thought I’d get the opinion of people on here too.

Your dealer needs to contact MG to unbind the car from the previous account holder.

Quick update - I called an MG dealer near me, they said to call MG Service (0121 756 4864) and they said straight away to email [email protected] with a copy of the V5, my contact details and to ask them to do a iSmart reset. I suspect this happens quite often.

Miles Roberts from Chorley Group has also emailed me and offered to help.

So hopefully this will be resolved soon!

Thanks all

All sorted! The wonderfully helpful Miles Roberts from Chorley Group resolved it for me - somehow! What a nice man. His name appears on this forum a few times. Thanks Miles!

Hello all

Just to close this out - Miles sorted it for me in I think just a couple of hours.

Customer Service at MG replied to my email 2 weeks later, then unbound the car - so I had to bind it again.

They need to work on their customer service! Shouldn't have to rely on Miles!

Get the other key or ask the dealer to provide a new one and unprogram the old keys and reprogram the existing one and the new one or the previous owner could come and drive your car away.

Hi,

Unfortunately due to a change in MG policy, I'm no longer able to get the vehicle unbound from the previous owner. All requests now need to go via MG Customer Services.

As per instructions above, email [email protected] with a copy of the V5C, the VIN number for the car, your contact details and to ask them to do a iSmart reset.
