Can anyone suggest what went wrong here, and how to deal with it?
l tried multiple public points, 7kW and CCS. No power got through but i got the message "connected not charging".
At home, the granny-charger did connect & did charge.
What data did not get through? & what can I try next?

If it’s a FL model, do you have a SOC limit or schedule set on the car itself?

What public EVSE or rapid charger were you using and has this just happened or been like it for sometime?
What version of mg5 do you have and do you just 'granny' at home?

Just happened.
an MG5LR pre-facelift.
Not sure the 7kW company, but another car was already charging;
the CCS was Instavolt & again another car was charging.
I tried two different pillars at each.
I have used both these locations before.
I occasionally granny-charge at home.

Try a couple of different public chargers, it's quite possible the two you were at were just faulty.

You can also get this if the cable isn't pushed in fully. Also the weight of the CCS cable can pull down on the connector, stopping it from communicating with the car properly. Some people have found holding the cable until the charge cycle starts helps with this.

Just got the same message at home when trying to start a charge from my 7kW wall box while inside the car.
No joy, eventually turned off the car, got out, removed the cable, locked the car, unlocked it and plugged the cable in again, then it started charging right away??

On my pre FL charging stops if I'm in the car ,even if I lock the doors . It only starts when I'm out of the car and doors locked

Wow, that's definitely not right.

My pre FL charges locked/unlocked me in/me out on both AC and DC. As it should.

I had read in the forum that there was an update , probably to the BMS, for this , and had asummed it was applied in myservice last April . It would appear not :( . Next service is in 6 weeks let's hope it happens then .
I normally AC charge and go for a walk or shopping . Now the monsoon season is here it's not so practical.
I don't have the problem with DC charging , only on AC

At this time of year, damp/corroded connectors are possible. I always dry them with a tissue, the cover cap can fill with water. Lesson learnt from previous EV / charger.

Just a thought, I used a charger in a car park and it kept saying not charging. It turned out that the card I had on the account was out of date so could not take any money.
If not using contactless and using account make sure you card is up to date.

Had the same problem on my pre FL. Disconnected the 12v battery, left it for 10mins, reconnected and everything reset and all has been fine since!

We have a bank of 7kw at work and I experienced something similar. Apparently to prevent the main fuse board from blowing the chargers need to spool up and I was told this could take up to 10mins.
As it happened it took 4mins to ‘communicate’ before charging started up.
Hope that helps?

This happened to me. after checking my car settings the charge was set to 40%. And as i was over 40% my car wouldn't charge. So check your charge settings to. Make sure to set your charge to 80% if your not doing long runs. And if you like to know how EV batteries work, there,s a YouTube about why charge at 80% . But it's all to do with the cells that consume energy. Short think as if the cells are alive and if overcrowded then they lose cells over a shorter time. And if you run the battery low, as in 10% then they will struggle to repopulate and so you lose more cells. But if I'm wrong someone please tell me. As i don't want to misinform anyone about what I've been watching or reading.
Thanks

Instavolt doesn't like our 5,we have had to phone the hotline twice. They are very quick and efficient. They re-booted the sytem and they worked! Apparently they work better from the app. On a 7kw plug in unlocked and then lock asap, this normally works for us. Good luck

As I am new to running an electric car I am very much on a learning curve. Can you please explain what a "Granny charge" is please.

John G
It is the lead with the box that came with your car. It is an AC type2 EVSE that allows the car to charge at about 2.2KW.
It will take about 24 hours to fully charge your car.
