MG4 Trophy LR
Hi all,

Interesting reading the various threads but just wanted to list a few issues and hopefully get your thoughts on the following.

I have just received an MG4 EV LR as a company car and in the past week have had the following issues -

Apple play doesn't work - have used original apple products, I also brought 2 other new leads which were purchased from garages have tried unlocking phone, checking settings, but it works one in ten times usually it just flashes up then goes off.
When driving I have a whistling noise which is even heard over the radio.
Main screen goes black even when touching home screen button.
Constant squeaking when applying brakes.
Constantly steaming up.
Poor headlight visibility - even on full beam it lights up the sides but the driving beam you can actually see a line on the road at night where the headlight beam stops.
The cabin even on full heat with blowers on with A/C turned off doesn't get very hot, down side it then steams up.
Also I see to have moisture on the inside of the windscreen where the vin number is.

I am sure there is more, but I feel just being very negative about the car, however that being said if I had brought it personally I would've taken it back....

Appreciate your help!!

I just wanted to say, welcome, @Smarky73. I'm going to bow out here as I don't have a Trophy, but lots of people have, so I expect you'll get some help pretty soon. My overall view is that pretty much none of this is acceptable and the car needs to go back to the dealer with this list of faults ASAP.

CarPlay ... if you have relevant permissions set then it's almost certainly the lead. Several folks here have recommended Anker braided leads from Amazon. But make sure you're connecting to the left-hand USB A port; the USB C port is only for pendrives, it doesn't have the config to support CarPlay.

Whistling sound may well be the front quarter-light (either side).

Main screen ... what Infotainment revision do you have? (It's in the System settings menu). It could also be CarPlay trying and failing to work.

Steaming up ... make sure you have HVAC turned on, a reasonable fan speed (2 or 3), and have airflow set for external not recirculate. Also set direction to window, and maybe also feet - no need for the passenger vent to be open.

Headlights ... others have commented about this. There is info elsewhere here about how to adjust them.

Heating ... as said, make sure AC is on. The temperature setting is actually the temperature of the air leaving the vents, not the cabin temperature. I have mine set at 25C.

Moisture ... make sure AC is running, and keep it this way. Maybe also try some moisture absorption bags to try and clear moisture from the car. Plus wipe down and properly clean the insides of the windows.

Appreciate your help with these points I will have a look and see what I can find.

Sorry me again, in regards to apple play would a wireless adapter work on the MG?

People have had variable success with such adapters, with one key thing being to put a start-up delay on the adapter so that it doesn't try to connect to the car until the car has booted up. Again there's a whole thread about this here. :)

(There's almost no new issue about the MG4 - virtually anything you can think about has already been discussed to death).

PS - any significant issues you should raise with your lease company and/or employer's fleet contact. You shouldn't be having to resolve their issues for them.

The important factor about the USB lead is that it should be high speed, that is USB 2.0 and above. The plastic insert to the USB plus should NOT be white. Ideally it should be blue. Anker cables are good but you need to ensure they are high speed for example Anker USB-A to C.

I don't understand the whistling noise. Check all windows are properly closed.

If you haven't tried, reset the home screen by pressing the home button for 10 seconds

The general advice on the forum to cure squeaking brakes, is to brake hard several times.

Steaming up. We set the AC to auto ECO mode at about 25C. In wet weather you may need to use the demister when starting.

We like out 23 Trophy, but you have to put up with it's various features I'm afraid. It's a Schrodinger's cat sort of car. The faults exist but their occurrence can't be predicted and occur randomly.

I'm dreading the moisture thing when I pick my new one up on Friday. Guessing it's been sitting in Bristol docks for a couple of months at least during one of the wettest winters I can remember for a while. Went and had a look at it the day it arrived at my local garage - see pic 🫣
Look at that back window 🤐

Mine misted up a lot the first few days but it’s cleared up now.

I’m not sure if you’ve tried but the lights (on the SE anyway) has an electronic level setting by the mirror adjustment controls. It could be yours are pointed right down. Check that it’s set on zero. I need mine on 1 as they are pointed up to high otherwise and I dazzle other cars.

To be honest, many of these sound like issues you should just get whichever garage is responsible to fix for you if you've just collected it. The squeaky brakes may just need a bit of use to scrap gunk or whatever off this discs, and maybe you've not got the hang of the AC which explains the steaming up, but everything else is stuff you shouldn't have to fix yourself.

Almost identical to mine, which I've had for nearly a year now.

This made a huge difference to steaming up for me. By default the car is in auto I think, which is recirculate (to maximise efficiency by not having to heat up cold external air)

I drive a minibus full of kids that regularly gets lots of rain in when we're loading unloading the lift with both back doors open . I am familiar with moisture 🌧️☔💧😉

Since the infotainment update to R46 (Trophy LR) Apple CarPlay will only connect if the car is in Ready mode. Otherwise nothing happens.

When on R33 CarPlay would work directly after entering the car and without being in ready mode.

Seems to me they introduced a minor 🪳in R46.

Nice colour.

There is plenty of advice about the AC settings to keep the condensation down on here but I would add, when we get a warm dry day open all the doors and tailgate for a few hours to dry everything out.

I have the same problem. I am having to connect my phone last (rework my pre-flight sequence). It is annoying.

I am thinking about getting a wireless CarPlay device to leave permanently connected (with a startup delay).
