Hi All,

Was unable to locate a thread so apologies if this is a duplicate.

Left work this evening, got into the car as normal. Started, engine ready, gear selector was unresponsive.

Would not illuminate or engage drive or reverse and car would not move.
Park toggle would work however.

Got out, locked then unlocked the car. Got in and all was working normally.

I’ve reached out to my dealer to see if they have had any reports of this or to see if they recommend bringing it in.
I’ll await their reply.

I’m wondering if this is something anyone else has experienced as I’ve not seen it posted here before.

I’ve a short video but unable to attach here.

Any feedback or comments are appreciated.

Thanks All.

I had a similar problem with my MG5, a few weeks ago, it was because the wheels were turned at a sharp angle. Straightened them up and all was well again. Also an open door can prevent you selecting drive.

Many thanks.
Wheels were perfectly straight. The door never crossed my mind so can’t recall if it closed fully or not.
Seems to be ok now but will keep an eye on it.

Not had any issues myself but you might find some answers in this thread

+1 re the door open. The car seems well air-proof too, so sometimes the door doesn't fully close on a less-than-ethusiastic thump.
I'm beginning to learn that if something unexpected happens, it's usually happening for a reason. An example, I couldn't turn on auto-hold a while back. But in the manual it's clear (and a pretty good safety feature) that auto-hold doesn't work if your seat belt isn't buckled up.

That's interesting about the air-proof thing. I was wondering how good the door seals are, after seeing the swimming MG4 that was reportedly none the worse for its watery adventure. I really really do not intend to try it voluntarily, but it would be interesting to know just what's likely to happen.

I emailed the driver of the car that swam, to ask him that, but he didn't answer me.
