Hello everyone,

I got a new mg4 ev (trophy long range) 9 months ago, and the windscreen wipers do not function properly. When I turn them on the wipers will stop halfway and there is a buzzing sound (possibly a sign the motor is running), which gets louder as you flick the switch.

I am having issues trying to organise my local MG dealerships to book me in to take a look at it (not very helpful as I’m sure it’ll be under warranty).

Does anyone have an idea what this could be and is it an easy fix? Or is it likely a sign of a more serious issue.

Thanks

Ruling out the obvious: did something get stuck around the wiper's arm where it connects to the rotor? Anything visible?

If you own the car try a different dealers as you don't have to use the one you bought it from. If it's a lease car try going through the lease company.

No not that I saw, it just started whilst driving in the rain.

Thanks. I’ve tried but not they are not being very responsive.

So you've a car you can't use unless there's no rain in the forecast?

If you cannot force your will onto the supplying dealer to resolve it PDQ, then I'd go to a trusted independent, it's just a car & just a wiper mechanism, there is a good chance they'll get you going until the Main Waster sorry Dealer sorts their diary out. Of course you shouldn't have to do this etc etc but point of principle vs working transport you can use when there's rain in the forecast...

Alternatively, it's just a car, call MG assist and they'll send the AA if you tell them it's raining, the wipers don't work and your stranded. If a patrol can't sort it then it's a big problem, my guess is that the mechanism has just disengaged from the splines on the motor shaft partially completely.

The issue here though (from what I can read) is the front wipers ... just saying ;)

Sorry. I obviously need to engage brain before typing.

ETA: I just realised why I was misled. The thread title originally said "windscreen wiper (singular) not working" so I assumed it was the single rear one. I didn't spot that the body of the post referred to "wipers" in the plural. Title now fixed.

Hi all

I had a problem with my MG4 and unable to get the vehicle booked in for repairs, called AA (under warranty) they took the vehicle to dealers and supplied me a hire car from Enterprise. You get 3 days, This gives the dealer time to slot the vehicle in when they have time within the workshop, or they book it in as soon as. Mine took 2 days and had it back, they did quote me a week when the AA took it in.
You do need patience with the dealers as they too are very busy with customers booking cars in and good mechanics are hard to come by these days, there are a lot of vacancies within the motor trade.
