Scared. NOT to commit to an EV but the MG. Badge snobbery....cheap as chips....a bit "tacky".....Quality....

You have probably heard it all b4, Being a man of a certain age, I can remember when the japcrap came over, when we were all driving Avengers, Minis, rusty old Cortinas, BMC 1100's....Capris, (posh bastard) etc, Then the Germans.....Bmw's were garbage. Audi..never heard of them. Dont even start on Skodas....

And now its perhaps the MG's turn. its Chinese, must be cheap/nasty/tacky fall to bits etc.....but is it, does it.

We have a high mpg Subaru that does 25 mpg and humungus tax. Its got to go. BUT we would love a sameish sized car. Cheapest by a country mile...the ZS. Early ones, £14k but that battery,,,,,,NOPE. The next gen with the slightly bigger one....maybe, but the biggy...and of course the Trophy spec.....

Should we commit???

Charging. We have excess solar. Drive over 150 miles in 1 trip....3/4 times a year and thats from Cornwall to London. Around 200 miles actually....Need a big boot and to tow a small trailer with around a 500kg payload.

Liked the Niro. But similar price is the ZS!! Bugger. Like the Enyaq but thats £25k, the Ioniq 5....similar £25k +......HELP

Plan a 20 minute coffee & charge stop each way (plus a full charge at your destination) and it will do a 200 mile each way trip comfortably, all year, all conditions, with minimal anxiety.

Badge snobbery and ZS Vs Niro...? That's more subjective and entirely your call. Either one should be fine.

Thanks but I know how to drive a car.

If it's your first EV, I wouldn't recommend an MG.

Buy a Hyundai for your first, they are just a lot more consistent.

Thanks but I know how to drive a car.

That's a bizarre response to someone suggesting how to deal with range anxiety after stating you were new to EVs...

Please re read my post and show me where there was anything remotely to do with anything "range anxiety"!

Yeah, but do you know how to drive an EV? There are plenty of anti EV videos on YouTube by people driving them incorrectly.

Then why mention;

"150 miles in 1 trip....3/4 times a year and thats from Cornwall to London. Around 200 miles actually...."

The distance is the same for any vehicle of any fuel type.

Antagonising other members isn't the best way to receive helpful responses
Right I will help all you experts. Out there. And some patronising replies. I put the range in to give you an idea of what distances I drive in an average year! It says a lot on some of you that the first thing you leap on is this "range anxiety" stuff. For YOU maybe. My ? is more about the car. If you cant/wont answer that...scroll on. If you just HAVE to tell me about YOUR driving style/skills/expertise etc....SCROLL ON.

If you wish to answer my ?, Help out with a purchase on an EV, great. My concern is how basic the MG is. Its driving feel. The depreciation etc.

If you feel you just HAVE to reply with something negative....SCROLL ON.

If you feel you are just itching to comment on what I have written above.....SCROLL ON.

I had an MG5 excite LR for 2 years - the original, not facelift version - never had a single issue with it in those 2 years. It was my first EV and I loved it, as an EV, but the looks were a bit 'meh' for me. I did have some concerns about bodywork/paint quality - surface 'rust' after 28,000 miles was visible under bonnet in some small areas, maybe more obvious as it was white.

Battery (61kWh) was good for 200+ miles, maybe 250 in summer, and was showing 97% State of Heath after 28,000 miles. Servicing was cheap, as were running costs with home charging. Good luck in your EV journey.

As for how basic it is, nothing like test driving one at your local dealer. What may be a given to you may be a. Ice extra to another person so all those subjective issues are best if experienced first person.

Depreciation: visit some websites for used cars to get a feel for it in your region/area. Cars depreciate differently in different geographies.

👍

Don't think MGs are cheap/nasty/tacky. On any forum you will read about the faults, more then the praises for the car.
Have a good read of this forum and other forum's, perhaps a few different test drives and then make your mind up. Good luck with your search. 🙂👍

Just trying to be helpful & friendly. Sad that you felt the need to take offence. Hey ho.
Did you actually read what I wrote... Why bother to reply if you have nothing to add????

Yeah, this person is either a troll or has very little experience of using forums. Zero understanding that it's a community and other peoples' experiences and opinions are valid.
This is a great example of how not to win friends and influence people.
They deleted their own account and won't be missed.

Somehow the UK Mg fora are just full of this complaining. Can only assume MG UK might not be the sharpest kids on the block … so many of the criticisms are similar for other cars with higher price tags. And this apparent anti-Chinese sentiment which borders on racism.

In any case, much less of this tends to appear in Oceania, Australia, NZ etc and in India ggat car is huge.

I’ve two ZS EVs over the last five years, a gen 1 then a gen 2. Zero problems with either. Must be the best bang for buck out there … but BYD are totally blowing it away now. Oh wait, thats Chinese too.

If you really want to listen to much of this rubbish then go buy Tesla or a Volvo. Will cost twice as much & according to those blogs there’s plenty of hidden gotchas there as well. Mostly in the UK though it would seem.
