Mg4 architecture

Oh yeah! Hopefully this link works MG4 wiring. We are quite confident that the car is running two CAN-FD channels to the camera though we haven't gotten to the point where we would be reading the data yet. Page 102 looks quite useful.
Nice, the link works for me, thanks very much for sharing this info.

I don't have any equipment that can deal with the higher speed FD bus currently, but I'd be interested in a method of simply recording the video feed to SD card, so if I do pick up some FD capable kit and get anywhere I'll follow up.

are the signals on page 102 feeding pins 6 and 14 with 4 grd and 16 power. Would this be the wiring feed from the comma X3?

This is what I am thinking of doing, though $1250+$200 for hardware that I will not really understand how to make work will be a risk. With the wiring diagrams posted and the idea that the Bosch camera feeds the page 102 info, if the connections go to ODBC (CAN) connector - 14 and 6, with 16 and 5 being the power and grd, would that be the wiring for the Comma AI 3X harness. Then it is simply a question of working out how to see the control signals and decode them.

Do you think the first step - connecting the 3X to the CAN port wiring as above is correct....then cross the next stage when I get the physical Comma 3X.

ISO 15765-4 CAN (SAE J2480)

  • ISO 15765-4 CAN is available in vehicles that are built in 2008 or later in the US.
  • Pins 4, 5, 6, 14, and 16 supports this protocol.
  • OBD2 protocol consists of 4 variants.
  • It works on a 2-wire communication method.
  • It can handle up to 1 Mbps.

Comma Ai harness connects to the car with a 26-pin Molex connector. Pinout.
I think the functional diagram has been superseded.

If correct this wiring diagram provides the path to connect the Comma ai 3X to the Bosch camera, to the ODBC2 port. Then the hard work of understanding the software and signals would be needed.

It's standard that the camera module also does processing and sends commands to the car. Openpilot community seems to have some nice connector images and we know the connector part numbers, just need to figure out the wiring and how the networking works.
Remove forward facing camera cover using a teaspoon, to lever the casing from the left hand side.

...The camera connector is 16pin.

Would be the harness wiring required. Anyone able to check I have this correct.

connector GT25-16DS-HU MG4 forward facing camera.png

This is the 16pin connector to the forward facing camera behind the rear view mirror. This is the connector that the -Y- harness connects to. So a male and female connector need to be wired to the harness to create the passthrough. The pinout I have previously posted. Is there anyone else, who is "programming" smart who wants to have a go at getting Comma Ai 3x to work on an MG. I think the required connectors can be obtained from Farnell.

Just had a quick check through the PR's and there are dev review requests from Australia, Belgium, Germany and a couple of Koreans so you might get lucky on Discord
I have done a bit of work on the hardware required, the wiring and the harness, where to get the connectors (male/female) - I am sort of ready for the plunge to buy a comma ai3 - but I am not a programmer and the reality is I will probably fail to get the system to work. BUT are you aware of anyone who is actually trying to use Comma Ai 3X and Openpilot - I have trawled through the websites looking for anyone who may be contemplating porting the MG to openpilot but can't see anything. I setup HomeAssistant and lost control of it and lights go on and off randomly and I have a desk of jailbroken plugs, sensors and kit that my wife made me remove and the bulk is in the garage....I really want to get Openpilot to work - but I have two issues, my partner and my lack of ability and the risk of buying an expensive bit of kit that ends up back in the box sitting in the garage after a month. I looked on Discord - can you post a link of anyone who is making progress on this. I might have to be a follower rather than a leader. Thanks
