MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

Waiting times for all (popular?) EV`s are getting longer, and shall continue to be a problem, it is not just an MG problem. I suspect similar problems re delivery would be encountered elsewhere. The option of buying used is pushing up prices beyond reasonableness. I am happy (and fortunately able) to be patient.

I was told the deposit was non-refundable BTW, although the sales guy was useless so may not be true. Also asked what happens if they missed their stated delivery window and the answer was 'tough' and no refund.

Seems almost impossible to be true, but that's what they stated. TBH that one sales guy probably lost them the sale as much as anything else, but the car is still ~10K more, worth it? unsure

New member here - hi all.

About to order a Trophy through Tusker who offer lease vehicles through my work, they are quoting a 52 week lead time....I am hoping they are erring on the side of caution here :(

Heat pump on the Kia is 900 or so extra don't forget.

I went to the Kia Niro launch event a few weeks ago, I was tempted, salesman was absolutely hopeless both at the event and for the following week. I'd have bought one if it was 100% July, but they basically said no chance, it'll be 2023 (true or not who knows)

But I turned up with a metaphorical bag of cash to buy one and they talked me out of it... Go figure

I have a Kia document re e-niro I can share with you later if interested, it's not publically available

Anyway, Ive since joined the ranks of MG ZS EV waiting... Hi all ! :)

Here you go if interested.

the '4' with heatpump is ~£10K more than the ZS Trophy... The Kia is nicer but not 10K nicer IMO (Trophy LR available for £31,000)
Odd, I couldn't see the option to add the heat pump on their online car builder (must say though their car builder is horrible) so assumed it was standard on the 4.

Otherwise yes it is a dilemma. 9-10k more is a lot. You could argue that even over 10 years, its probably only 6k more as the resell value of the Kia should be higher.
The only real issue is the ZS availability. While I did find a demo car for sale, reading this forum it appears the demo models' batch are the one most impacted by bricking when using faulty fast chargers. And dealerships seem to be bad at finding the root cause and fixing the issue.
I can't take the chance of being stranded on a long journey.

My work colleague ordered an skoda eniaq last year in August, he still waiting for the car to arrive.
So is not just MG, many have problems with delivery times.

Yeah I too can wait, but it's bloody frustrating. I just thought I would put it out there so everyone knows the situation.

Guaranteeeing? In writing with penalties? That may shift the needle for me to Kia.

Does anyone know here if real world consumption (miles per kwh) is materially different or similar between the MG ZS and the Niro EV? I am guessing there will be a difference in winter since the Kia has a heat pump?
heat pump is a optional extra and it's £895

The cheapest that I can find an e-Niro 3 with metallic paint & heat pump for is £7,374 more than my LR Trophy on order. A bit too much for me and this is with some flaws such as non-rapid charging times etc.

My company salary sacrifice scheme is saying 40 weeks delivery time, which puts it mid Feb, i would expect March at the earliest to get the new 23 registration. I'm in a position where i can wait.

I setup this thread where some of these e-Niro points are discussed.

Unfortunately this has now become the norm.
A lot of manufactures have been taking NON refundable deposits on cars since the shortage of cars started.
I think a lot of people have been placing orders on multiple models across different manufactures, with the intention of cancelling the majority of them, when one arrives.
They have therefore applied this non refundable condition to discourage this practice.
MG are still offering to refund peoples deposits, at the moment !.

Somebody is quoting a 47 week lead time on a new VW e.UP !.
I guess that say’s it all really !.
The car is likely to be updated / remodelled in that time surely !.
Strangely, I have noticed that the second hand price of some cars are starting to fall over the last few weeks.
This must indicate that dealers are getting cars for their forecourts from some where ?.
The focus has shifted a little more towards buying used cars, rather than waiting for a new car to arrive I guess.

I ordered a Trophy through Tusker in March, it was originally scheduled for mid June but went to later August. Hopefully will not be moved again.

I went to the presentation of the new Niro e tonight. if I place an order this week they will guarantee July delivery. They are manufacturing all orders for their July launch. But it is a set number once that number has been fulfilled. The next batch is December . I'm tempted but its 6k more than the mg trophy connect.
things to consider, is the length they been producing EV's. network support, dealership maturity, information, build quality, warranty, if we can't get info on when its coming imagine if we had part issues, can you not list a for and against and a spec comparison, for the 6k. with you seeing it last night. what was your initial thoughts, take away the 6k difference, bare in mind the Gove grant is a factor of the 6k, as if you went fro a mg now you wouldn't get the grant so what is the delta against a current mg? would you go for it?

let us know your thoughts.

£7,374 difference for me is too much. For this I would expect more bells & whistles such as faster charging capability. We all know that car dealers lie as well to try & get sales… I think that I will stick with our non-communicating friends for now.

What do you think the chances are of any of us actually getting a car in September ?

Will, the date just keep getting pushed back a month at a time.

I've started looking at second-hand EV's on Autotrader thinking I should sell my Golf whilst the price is high and put up with an old Leaf until the LR Trophy connect arrives, won't have a large range but it won't be costing me £90-100 to fill the tank.

Welcome!

There are people that ordered their ZS EV in November/December '21, that are now being told September for delivery. With that in mind the 52 weeks you've been quoted seems to be at the more realistic end of the spectrum. At least that way you're not being led on, and there's hope it could be sooner.

SAIC bought 2 ships that should come online soon, if not already (not heard any confirmation yet). I may be wrong, but it's the only way I see them catching up on transporting the backlog of orders even if they had all the components needed.

I would be a little cautious over promises made by leasing companies to be honest.
With the huge shortage found with MG dealerships at the moment, who is likely to get grabs on a car ?.
A MG dealer customer order, or an order raised directly through a lease company, do you think 🤔.
They will look after their own customer base first I think.

I'd have to agree... I hope it's not the case and that they fulfil based on order date, but when looking to purchase mine it was 'implied' that if I was buying through a scheme rather than directly, I'd wait longer.
