So the other day while filtering in the left lane on green lights and a lorry on the right lane held on red lights an eScooter appears from in front of the lorry, fairly quickly - completely disregarding any traffic around him and any road and crossing laws. I was on the brake quickly but found that the brake pedal was further down then expected. The auto emergency braking system activated and stopped the vehicle. First time that has happened in the MG5. Good news for the rider - it saved his day. However, I found that the system held the brake for what seemed like an age and wouldn't release. Tried putting the hand brake on and releasing that, by moving forward, but car wouldn’t move. So switch the car off - then on again. Message on dash then said H/V not ready. By then vehicles around me was expressing their anger, but not the car behind - that was an unmarked police car - whereby the office got out to find out what the issue was.
Thankfully the office saw what happened and even congratulated me for stopping so quickly.

Two more resets later and the vehicle became ready and I was able to drive off normally

Anyone else had issue of auto emergency braking system after it activated?

I have the SR and have found if you try to turn the car on and select D too quickly it gets upset. I now pause between pressing the go button into ready mode and selecting D.
Because I use kers3 and almost one foot driving when you need to stop quickly the brake pedal does seem to travel a long way possibly because the disc don't get cleaned up much due to lack of use.

You would expect the system to reset itself after a few seconds of the obstruction clearing most definitely. Is there anything in the handbook about its expected function?

AEB kicked in on mine on Friday (van I was travelling a safe distance from suddenly swerved to the other lane leaving me travelling at 70 towards a stopped vehicle), beyond scaring the crap out of the guy behind it all worked as intended and released itself within seconds and we were on our way again moment's later.

Lguk were on ACC? I don't think what I understood to be the the emergency braking works above 20mph.

No, not on acc. They car kicked in and almost locked the wheels. Was travelling between 60 and 70. Must be MG pilot related, it certainly wasn't me as I would have attempted a lane change myself.

What do you understand to be emergency braking if it doesn't work above 20mph? Have you come from a VW where the ACC doesn't detect static traffic above 50MPH and would have left Lguk to himself (possibly safer as he was paying attention).

Haha no, I expect I misinterpreted something I read.

FWIW the manual says

"When the system detects that there is a risk of collision between the vehicle and the vehicle or the mobile pedestrian directly in front of the vehicle, the brake system will automatically intervene to decelerate the vehicle, so as to avoid collision accidents or mitigate damage from collision accidents. If the vehicle is braked and stopped under the system control, it will remain stationary for a short time. Full control of the vehicle will then be returned to the driver"
