The MG4 Trophy that I used to love...

Latest SMMT figures show the MG4 was the 2nd highest BEV in 2023: New car market delivers best year since 2019 as fleets fuel growth So MG should have a local supply of common spares for the MG4 (as an MG5 owner the case will be weaker).

    Blue ICE'd

Thanks - though I think planning policy and legislation is local - hence asking the council.

    Blue ICE'd

A seasonal title - but not a seasonal issue. Our small toon of 7,000 is well catered for with AC fast chargers 7kW/22kW (3x2 free Charge Place Scotland = 1x2 pay for Charge Place Scotland, + 2 pay for in Aldi). The free ones have high use, the others rarely used. I suspect the free to use ones...

    UK Debut

Cyberstar makes its debut in Scotland test drives 16-17 Sept https://www.arnoldclark.com/mg/events This is at the Arnold Clark Innovation centre in Whiteinch, Glasgow. Unusually this is not a sales centre, but has displays of battery systems, chargers etc + a wide range of EVs to test drive.

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Latest breakdown of new UK registrations - pure electric at 21%, with MG having 2% behind Tesla at 5% - MG4 sales have been reported as key. So FUD may be prominent in the media, but the market switch continues. More breakdowns here: New AutoMotive - Accelerating the switch to electric

    Aviemore new chargers

Charging in Aviemore earlier this week: CPS (car park next to the public toilets) - CCS fine, type 2 cable is destroyed (photo) & reported Fuuse (High Range Hotel) - CCS fine, needs Fuuse app. Unit 1 is pink on LHS, as the units are not numbered this needed a swift repositioning from unit 2...

    MG4 X-Power waiting area

My MG5 was in for its first service. Chatted to sales team after picking car up, asked "Have you seen the X Power?" Ans = "We have one at the back". Looks nice. I might have to pop back for a test drive, though there may be a queue.

    How long...…......

Similar process but shorter experience. My 5 was in for 3 and half weeks over last Christmas. So much shorter - but the process was the same. Lots of trial and error, starting with the simple and cheap fixes and slowly moving to the more expensive solutions. The cycle was slowed because 1)...

The Public Charge Point Regulations 2023

These are the plain text main points from the regulation + some observations from me. Regulation 5 requires a charge point operator, within a specified period, to ensure that a person is able to pay to charge an electric vehicle by contactless payment without entering into a pre-existing...

    Emergency charge port release

Shiv, the emergency release is for a cable stuck in the charging port. But it is not a robust system, for a trapped cable the technique is a gentle pull on the cable and simultaneously a pull on the stuck charging cable. So once you solve the flap problem check that a charging cable will lock...

    Charging at motorway service stations

Long Island was fine - even with several chargers not working - aided by the 4.7 miles/kWh which is a result of the lower speed on the single track roads. Weather has an impact - this is the charger at Uig ferry terminal - salt water environment. For members not familiar the Long Island is a...

    Attempting Summer Break in Scotland

There is now a method for overseas visitors who do not have a UK bank account to create a Charge Place Scotland (CPS) account and even get a card (posted to a UK address) https://chargeplacescotland.org/guidance/account-set-up-outside-uk/ I have tried helping several overseas visitors...

I've gone and done it now (road trip)

Lancaster - there are 5 BP 50kW pulse chargers at the Park & Ride just off J34 (Lancaster North Junction). Apart from a host of 7kW chargers there is nothing else - no loos, no coffee, no food. But conversely there is no-one else charging. 3 visits, only seen 1 other EV. More of a fall back...

    Charging at motorway service stations

Also did Benbecula via Uig. Turns out that an EV on a single track island gives 4.7 miles per kWh - speed rarely hits 50mph and regen really helps with slowing and acceleration from passing places.

    Charging at motorway service stations

I did a 1,270mile round trip in March and a1,025mile round trip over a long weekend just gone. Both Ayrshire to the South coast of England. Several improvements noted (connectors in brackets): Applegreen at Abington (20) & Gretna (12) services Grid Serve at Burton in Kendal (10) and Instavolt...
