Aas all verbal. No email. The dealership has an email .... sounds like MG don't want the fault to be widely known. An oversight perhaps? Fundamental design error? PR nightmare?
First, a little recap.
I got my Xpower in October 2023. Reported the vibration immediately. My dealership agreed there was a problem and put in a technical report to MG.
Subsequently have trialled a steering wheel damper (failed).
Wheels realigned and rebalanced (failed).
Wheels COMPLETELY...
I've just checked in with my dealer - they're still waiting to hear back from MG on next steps after all previous attempts to resolve the issue have failed.
* Reminder - so far we've tried steering wheel damper, wheel alignment, wheel balancing, complete wheel swap (for a Trophy LR).
I use mine - but then I have the Android/USB cable running up to the wireless charging pad (for those who haven't discovered it yet, there's a hole to run your cable up on each side of the wireless pad - just lift the pad cover off gently).
Just read the attached on the FB MG4 Owners Group. We've tried all of this and more ... it made absolutely no difference. My dealer is waiting to hear further instructions.
Drum roll
....... the wheel change (for 18" alloys from a Trophy LR, albeit still Bridgestone tyres
...... made no difference
Back to the drawing board with MG UK.
The Wheel rebalance didn't work for me. I'm happy for the dealer to use my car for testing (as long as I get a courtesy car for the day) - we both know it has an issue that needs resolving and co-operation is needed. It's not their fault MG has sold them a problem.
I've just been out on the M62...
I've always said, the vibration isn't a deal breaker for us. I love the car. I love the price.
I love being the sleeper car in white that can burn the RS Turbo if I choose to (young lad, revving his engine next to me at traffic lights last week. I got too much enjoyment, calmly turning left as...
For the avoidance of doubt ... last time I checked, "her and her car". 😆
I've changed my profile pic to make it a bit more obvious than a diver (me) with sharks.
Latest from me in Leeds, UK:
Luscombes continue being brilliant in trying to resolve the vibration issue (which is great news for all of us). They are being guided by MG at each step. So far
Steering damper didn't help.
Rebalancing didn't help.
They have now been asked by MG to try replacing...
Dealer rebalanced the wheels today. Again, no difference.
I'm lucky to have the support of the dealership. Apart from their demonstrator, they have one other customer who has reported the issue. They agree, its definitely a problem so they've gone back to MG to ask for next steps.
The Service...
Just heard from the dealership. The steering damper has made no difference whatsoever.
They are going back to MG to say "what next?"
But on the basis of convos here, will try rebalancing the wheels tomorrow.
Steering wheel damper - sent out by MG/SAIC to my dealer, to try and resolve the vibration (which I had noted on the demonstrator, and reported within 24 hours of vehicle collection - the dealership put in a Technical Report at the time. MG UK reckoned this was their first complaint about it...
Covering all bases (though, as I always say, the vibration 65-73mph isn't a deal breaker for me):
This is being fitted to my XPower today.
And I'm booked in for Wheel Balancing & Alignment on Saturday.
Will report back.
