electric vehicle

An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. It can be powered by a collector system, with electricity from extravehicular sources, or it can be powered autonomously by a battery (sometimes charged by solar panels, or by converting fuel to electricity using fuel cells or a generator). EVs include, but are not limited to, road and rail vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electric aircraft , and electric spacecraft. For road vehicles, together with other emerging automotive technologies such as autonomous driving, connected vehicles, and shared mobility, EVs form a future mobility vision called Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric (CASE) Mobility.EVs first came into existence in the late 19th century, when electricity was among the preferred methods for motor vehicle propulsion, providing a level of comfort and ease of operation that could not be achieved by the gasoline cars of the time. Internal combustion engines were the dominant propulsion method for cars and trucks for about 100 years, but electric power remained commonplace in other vehicle types, such as trains and smaller vehicles of all types.
Government incentives to increase adoption were first introduced in the late 2000s, including in the United States and the European Union, leading to a growing market for vehicles in the 2010s. Increasing public interest and awareness and structural incentives, such as those being built into the green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, are expected to greatly increase the electric vehicle market. During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns reduced the number of greenhouse gases in gasoline or diesel vehicles. The International Energy Agency said in 2021 that governments should do more to meet climate goals, including policies for heavy electric vehicles. Electric vehicle sales may increase from 2% of the global share in 2016 to 30% by 2030. As of July 2022 the global EV market size was $280 billion and was expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2026. Much of this growth is expected in markets like North America, Europe, and China; a 2020 literature review suggested that growth in the use of electric 4-wheeled vehicles appears economically unlikely in developing economies, but that electric 2-wheeler growth is likely. There are more 2 and 3 wheel EVs than any other type.

A new video from me: Energy bills with solar, battery and EV

Get the popcorn out everyone. I've made another You Tube video, this time about our energy bills! Preaching to the converted on here, but perhaps another real-world example if you want to share with family, friends or colleagues. I also made a shorter version for those who just want the...

Impressed by the range and mls/kWh

I often use my car (Trophy LR) for 100 mile journeys, but for convenience charge before my return so not really showing the true range and economy. So today I was seriously impressed on my 190 mile round trip when the car returned 4.75mls/kWh over mixed driving, a significant distance of which...

Adverts with little or no information

I've just seen the new advert for the Frontera EV and the only details that it mentioned was that it was electric, had lights and seemed to be made of lego. Have I missed something? Are there any other adverts that seem to forget to advertise the product?

I made a video about EV options

I thought I might share this with the community. Was visiting my brother-in-law and sister-in-law at the weekend and they mentioned they are looking for an EV that is large enough to visit her parents at Xmas with their kids and all the stuff they take. I was thinking about their options and...

    Power Steering Issues

Recently, the power steering has worsened to the point we don't feel safe to drive the car. The car has been booked in for inspection with the dealer (2 week wait), but interested if anyone else has had the same issue - in that as you turn the wheel, it alternates between feeling light and to...

    Charging issue

Hi guys, I recently had received an update to R59 on my car. Ever since, the car has failed to charge overnight at home. For context, we have Intelligent Octopus and an ohme charger. My partner has a hybrid car which uses the same app/charger and works fine so I know it's a car issue. The car...

MG Service plan, what is the £19 for?

Just thught I'd get a quote online for a 2 year service plan, when I got to the totals screen I noticed something strange. The first service (year 2) is £217.10, the second is £114, this gives a total of £331.10, but the total of the instalments is £350.30. So the question is what is the £19.20...

    Max charge?

Sorry for the question which I’m sure has been asked tonnes of times. But is a standard MG4 only capable of AC charging at a maximum rate of 6-7kW? My missus car charges at that rate at home, which is fine as it’s only a 7kW charger, but we had it on a 21kW unit out and about earlier this week...
