electric vehicle

An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. It can be powered by a collector system, with electricity from extravehicular sources, or it can be powered autonomously by a battery (sometimes charged by solar panels, or by converting fuel to electricity using fuel cells or a generator). EVs include, but are not limited to, road and rail vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electric aircraft , and electric spacecraft. For road vehicles, together with other emerging automotive technologies such as autonomous driving, connected vehicles, and shared mobility, EVs form a future mobility vision called Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric (CASE) Mobility.EVs first came into existence in the late 19th century, when electricity was among the preferred methods for motor vehicle propulsion, providing a level of comfort and ease of operation that could not be achieved by the gasoline cars of the time. Internal combustion engines were the dominant propulsion method for cars and trucks for about 100 years, but electric power remained commonplace in other vehicle types, such as trains and smaller vehicles of all types.
Government incentives to increase adoption were first introduced in the late 2000s, including in the United States and the European Union, leading to a growing market for vehicles in the 2010s. Increasing public interest and awareness and structural incentives, such as those being built into the green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, are expected to greatly increase the electric vehicle market. During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns reduced the number of greenhouse gases in gasoline or diesel vehicles. The International Energy Agency said in 2021 that governments should do more to meet climate goals, including policies for heavy electric vehicles. Electric vehicle sales may increase from 2% of the global share in 2016 to 30% by 2030. As of July 2022 the global EV market size was $280 billion and was expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2026. Much of this growth is expected in markets like North America, Europe, and China; a 2020 literature review suggested that growth in the use of electric 4-wheeled vehicles appears economically unlikely in developing economies, but that electric 2-wheeler growth is likely. There are more 2 and 3 wheel EVs than any other type.

Hi everyone, I’ve been following this forum for a while and I really enjoy the community here. I noticed that we don’t yet have a dedicated topic where MG4 EV owners can share photos of their cars, so I thought it would be nice to create one. Feel free to post your favorite pictures of your...

12V battery drained in 48 hours whilst locked

ADMIN may repost this elsewhere, but thought all EV owners need to guard against the 12v battery failing. I had the 12V battery failure on my MGS5 after no use for 48 hours, something had totally drained the battery, yet the car remained locked throughout. I ran a battery test, the battery was...

Do I need a house battery?

Like @tsedge I have been following the solar/battery/EV discussions here and have been considering adding a house battery. We have a 4kW solar array installed by the previous owner on FiT, it generates 3.7-4.2 MWh per annum. Last year EDF paid £910 in generation and deemed export payments and I...

    Vehicle to Home Battery

Every year we consume a large amount of energy on Christmas day, 2 ovens, the hob, heatpumps running etc, this year was no exception and as I've done before, I connected our MG5 up to charge our home battery. Total consumption for the day was just over 74kWh. This was satisfied with 31 kWh from...

I had my dashcam professionally fitted, so please don't ask any questions about which line or fuse it's attached to. Winter range...

I appreciate this has probably been discussed previously but, I've just charged our MG4 Trophy overnight to 80%. The app is telling me it has 127 miles of range. I knew winter temperatures would have an impact on the range but that is quite an alarming drop off to the usual expected miles available.
