electric vehicle

An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. It can be powered by a collector system, with electricity from extravehicular sources, or it can be powered autonomously by a battery (sometimes charged by solar panels, or by converting fuel to electricity using fuel cells or a generator). EVs include, but are not limited to, road and rail vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electric aircraft , and electric spacecraft. For road vehicles, together with other emerging automotive technologies such as autonomous driving, connected vehicles, and shared mobility, EVs form a future mobility vision called Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric (CASE) Mobility.EVs first came into existence in the late 19th century, when electricity was among the preferred methods for motor vehicle propulsion, providing a level of comfort and ease of operation that could not be achieved by the gasoline cars of the time. Internal combustion engines were the dominant propulsion method for cars and trucks for about 100 years, but electric power remained commonplace in other vehicle types, such as trains and smaller vehicles of all types.
Government incentives to increase adoption were first introduced in the late 2000s, including in the United States and the European Union, leading to a growing market for vehicles in the 2010s. Increasing public interest and awareness and structural incentives, such as those being built into the green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, are expected to greatly increase the electric vehicle market. During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns reduced the number of greenhouse gases in gasoline or diesel vehicles. The International Energy Agency said in 2021 that governments should do more to meet climate goals, including policies for heavy electric vehicles. Electric vehicle sales may increase from 2% of the global share in 2016 to 30% by 2030. As of July 2022 the global EV market size was $280 billion and was expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2026. Much of this growth is expected in markets like North America, Europe, and China; a 2020 literature review suggested that growth in the use of electric 4-wheeled vehicles appears economically unlikely in developing economies, but that electric 2-wheeler growth is likely. There are more 2 and 3 wheel EVs than any other type.

Issue with AC charging/New CCU fitted (Phase One SE LR)

Edit: Originally, I thought I had an issue with my Zappi not being able to charge the car, but after testing other AC charging points (cutting out after fifteen minutes or less) and contacting the dealer, I eventually found out it was an issue with the car, namely the charge control unit, which...

    Charging the MG4

I drove an Ampera E for 5 years and I have now been driving the MG4 Luxury for a week to almost complete satisfaction. But what I find very unfortunate is that you cannot set the time within which the car must charge at the home charging station (yes, I saw that you can set the starting time...

    Should i charge to 100%?

Hi, I am a low mileage driver. I picked up my trophy at 99%, went down to 30% and then charged to 80%. The dealer told me that i need to go to 10% at the first time and then charge to 100% for balance charging. The reason that I only charged to 80% its because someone said at MG community...

I'm going for my first service tomorrow and I'm assuming I'll get a battery report for the first year. I'll be interested to see how it's degraded as compared to videos I watched prior to purchasing that outlined the typical losses seen in LFP batteries per year. I've a standard range but if...

Had a scare yesterday, coming down an onto a motorway ramp and accelerating up to merge at 70mph with a slight left turning motion. MG4 Managing Expectations

In November 2023 my wife took the plunge and ordered the Trophy LR, following my advice to order the one with “all the toys on it”.
