electric vehicle

An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. It can be powered by a collector system, with electricity from extravehicular sources, or it can be powered autonomously by a battery (sometimes charged by solar panels, or by converting fuel to electricity using fuel cells or a generator). EVs include, but are not limited to, road and rail vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electric aircraft , and electric spacecraft. For road vehicles, together with other emerging automotive technologies such as autonomous driving, connected vehicles, and shared mobility, EVs form a future mobility vision called Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric (CASE) Mobility.EVs first came into existence in the late 19th century, when electricity was among the preferred methods for motor vehicle propulsion, providing a level of comfort and ease of operation that could not be achieved by the gasoline cars of the time. Internal combustion engines were the dominant propulsion method for cars and trucks for about 100 years, but electric power remained commonplace in other vehicle types, such as trains and smaller vehicles of all types.
Government incentives to increase adoption were first introduced in the late 2000s, including in the United States and the European Union, leading to a growing market for vehicles in the 2010s. Increasing public interest and awareness and structural incentives, such as those being built into the green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, are expected to greatly increase the electric vehicle market. During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns reduced the number of greenhouse gases in gasoline or diesel vehicles. The International Energy Agency said in 2021 that governments should do more to meet climate goals, including policies for heavy electric vehicles. Electric vehicle sales may increase from 2% of the global share in 2016 to 30% by 2030. As of July 2022 the global EV market size was $280 billion and was expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2026. Much of this growth is expected in markets like North America, Europe, and China; a 2020 literature review suggested that growth in the use of electric 4-wheeled vehicles appears economically unlikely in developing economies, but that electric 2-wheeler growth is likely. There are more 2 and 3 wheel EVs than any other type.

    Not charging fully overnight

Has anyone run into this issue? Charging overnight and started from approx 15%. It stopped at 88% even when charge window was for another 2 hours. This is the worst I've seen of this issue, I've had large charges previously where they've stopped at 97/98% but I not really questioned it much...

    EV Gripes Rant

Can we have a good rant about the pitfalls of EV life. I for one find it really annoying when you’re waiting for someone to finish using a 50KW+ charger, and they’ve decided to sit in their car until 100%, even though they’re barely pulling 4KW over 90%, and there’s a whole bank of AC chargers...

Sorry I've not been around for a few days. Back soon, promise. I just thought older hands might want to hear this one. How quickly does that battery drain?

Hello everyone, I'm brand new to EV and I have had my Trophy LR for 3 weeks. I know it's winter and I have heat on etc but my battery is going down 10 to 12% for about a 12 mile trip to do school run and to work. Is this normal? Thanks in anticipation

    Basic (standard) or long range

Hi Guys, I’m very interested in the MG4 ev. I’ve done quite a lot of research and still not sure which ones for me (standard or long range). I’ve been put off slightly by the battery on the LR, some make it sound dangerous! And the fact that you can only charge to 80%. I generally only do short...

Would not stay in D or R

Today, I encountered a curious fault where I pressed the brake and selected R, in the normal way, but then upon letting go of the brake it automatically sent back to P. I tried several times and it would not stay in R. I also tried D but it would not stay in that either. I switched the car off...
