charging speed

A charging station, also known as a charge point or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, neighborhood electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrids).
There are two main types: AC charging stations and DC charging stations. Batteries can only be charged with direct current (DC) electric power, while most electricity is delivered from the power grid as alternating current (AC). For this reason, most electric vehicles have a built-in AC-to-DC converter, commonly known as the "onboard charger". At an AC charging station, AC power from the grid is supplied to this onboard charger, which produces DC power to charge the battery. DC chargers facilitate higher power charging (which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters) by building the converter into the charging station instead of the vehicle to avoid size and weight restrictions. The station then supplies DC power to the vehicle directly, bypassing the onboard converter. Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of international standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to charge a wide variety of vehicles that utilize competing standards.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas. Private charging stations are typically found at residences, workplaces, and hotels.

    Charging Issues

Hi All, a weird one I have encountered this week. My MG4 charges at the standard 7kW on my domestic charger and until recently was charging at the standard 7kW at the chargers at work. For some reason the car is only charging at 3kW now at work but still 7kW at home. I am the only EV this is...

    Rapid speeds FL

MG5 FL Been a while since I used a rapid charger but decided to pop round and try the shinny new MFG 150kw chargers round the corner from me. I didn’t preheat the battery and it was about 13c outside. I was charging from 50 to 85% just to see the speed difference once it hit 80%. What puzzled...

    Slow charging but not really?

Hi All, Took delivery of a new MG ZS Trophy LR this week. Charging it for the first time tonight at home, and the car says it's charging at 16A and is predicting a charge finish time far longer than I'd expect. When I look at my in-home smart meter display, I can see the house is drawing 7.7kW...

    SE SR charging rate

This is for SR LFP cars only. I was wondering is SR owners can share their charging speed here in one forum for us to get a feel for what we can expect AND the charging curve. This will help us live better with our cars specially if we are on a trip. Please just put in your experiences. Just...

Safe, or pushing it? (charge rate from 3 pin plug)

This is probably not MG4 specific, so feel free to move if not appropriate. [Edit: Moved to General Chat.] I have this new charger (10m extension) that I've been using as I don't have a proper home install (and can't), it plugs in to the 3 pin mains. It has an amp limit setting which I've been...

    Charging speed variation

Morning all, When I charge at home with my Indra charger, I don’t always get 7kW speed, which is frustrating when (like today) I need a full charge and it has only added about 10% overnight. I’ve got screenshots from my previous two charges and to clarify - I do nothing differently in terms of...

Fastest Charging Speed You’ve Seen / Got?

I know some people & reviewers have said that their 4 has struggled to hit the bigger numbers, what’s the max you’ve seen? This is mine currently taken a few mins ago at Tesla Supercharger. It was climbing but someone’s plugged in next to me and that halted that 😅

    Charging speed

My MG5 LR is only charging at 3kW instead of 7kW from my wall charger. It is as slow as the 13 amp granny charger. Wall charging is set to 32 amp. Any ideas anyone what wrong or where is the fault. I expect car to charge to 80% in about 8 hrs but it’s taking about 16/18 hrs.

540 Mile Round Trip - Zero Issues

Popped home to North Wales over the weekend to visit my mum. 270 miles each way. Charging Speed at 10%?

Today I inadvertently ran the main battery down lower than usual and just now plugged it into our MG wall charger when I got home. The charger reliably provides 7.2Kw when topping up in my usual range of 25 - 75%, but with the battery at 10% it was only working at 2watts. The charging port...

In the near future due too work, I'll have to start using the public charging network. Up to now, home charging has served me well and the ability to go to 100% with no time constraints. Charging Speed: Car or Cable?

Charging question for anyone who knows the answer! I've got a ZS SE LR (72 plate), and I want to know what's limiting my charging speeds. On a 22kW Type 2 chargers using my own cable, it'll max at 7kW; and at 70kw CCS chargers it'll max at 50kw. I've seen posts on here from owners getting...
