transmission

An automatic transmission (sometimes abbreviated AT) is a multi-speed transmission used in motor vehicles that does not require any input from the driver to change forward gears under normal driving conditions.
The most common type of automatic transmission is the hydraulic automatic, which uses a planetary gearset, hydraulic controls, and a torque converter. Other types of automatic transmissions include continuously variable transmissions (CVT), automated manual transmissions (AMT), and dual-clutch transmissions (DCT).
The 1904 Sturtevant "horseless carriage gearbox" is often considered to be the first true automatic transmission. The first mass-produced automatic transmission is the General Motors Hydramatic four-speed hydraulic automatic, which was introduced in 1939.

    Transmission oil change torque settings.

I am about ready to change my transmission oil at 20k miles. I have the correct oil and also new fill and drain plugs and new sealing washers. Does anyone know what the tightening torque settings would be for the fill and drain plugs or where I can find them ?

Heavy thump from transmission when gear selected from park

Hi everyone, not sure if it’s a fault but around 50% of the time I’m getting a heavy thump from behind when the transmission is engaging from park, it’s happening in both drive and reverse, any ideas anyone?

    "P" for park

Just wondering if the 4 has a parking pawl in the transmission which engages when you press "P" on the selector. I know the gen 1 ZS didn't, "P" just engaged the handbrake on the rear wheels, but the MG4 manual says "P" locks the transmission and there is a slight rock and a metallic clunk sound...
