Hi, has anyone done a comparison chart ( or should we start one) that compares the 1st service price for the MG S 5 EV?

I have been quoted £160 is that reasonable or can we get some prices from others?

Any difference between low miles and normal miles rates?

Seems about average. If it's reasonable or not depends on your point of view. They don't do much. Install updates, top up the washer fluid, and do a few checks.

I don’t think MG offer the low user / milage services anymore.
You probably get a similar work content, but pay a standardised rate 🤣.
It’s only a health check on the first service normally and if no updates are available checked against your VIN number, then it’s not going to get connected to the diagnostic computer either.

I have an MG Service Plan and its price is £114 for the first service. Work is actually carried out by my local dealer, Evans Halshaw, Grantham.

I guess you bought one from this site: еQuote

You can get that price with the minimum 24 month plan. The 2nd service is double that much though!

Agreed, but I took out the 5 year plan which, including two MoTs, totals £1,145.37. To me, that seems a very good deal! So my monthly cost is just over £20 for the length of the contract.

However, I do accept that there is a clause in the contract that says:
Payment for any additional work carried out and or materials supplied by a Dealer which does not fall within the definition of the Services will be the
responsibility of the Customer and will be payable by the Customer on collection of the Vehicle.

This seems perfectly reasonable to me since, if any "extra work" really is needed I would be paying for it anyway!

I have questions about this.

Is there any point going for a 5 year plan? It seems to be the exact same price as a 2 year plan. When that runs out I could reassess the options, although I suppose there is a risk the price goes up.

Do I need to use an MG dealer? Are there cheaper options that keep the warranty intact?

Yes to first question, no to second (as I understand the terms of the MG Warranty).

I thought I read something about you being able to use other service centres as long as they do it all to MG spec. I don't know if any can actually do that though, at least not around here.

Might just have to cough up. It's annoying because they really don't do much for the money.

Yes you can have it serviced elsewhere and as long as they use MG parts and do it to MG specification the warranty won't be affected.

The downside is MG Assist won't be renewed for another year, you'll have to keep a comprehensive receipt in case of any warranty claims and any software updates won't be done.

I see they do monthly payments for the servicing stuff too, but I'd rather just pay in one go. If you have anything monthly, technically credit like that, it affects your ability to get other loans. Even if it is only £20/month.

Legally that's true but MG are especially slippery when it comes to warranty work so wouldn't be surprised if they refuse to fix things under warranty without MG dealer service history.

Well, mine needs some warranty work anyway, so I have to go there at least once.
