Haven't posted for quite a while as my wife almost wrote the car off. It's been off the road for nearly 6 months but now I'm back with a new problem. The USB port that I use for all my music has become detached so I can't plug in my music. According to the dealer it's not covered by any guarantees and will cost about £450 to fix. That means it's back to the radio or the phone.....! Anyone else had this problem?

Comment from MG dealer.....actually cost £420.

Usb port pushed back into centre console as per customer complaint. Requires removal of centre console to re secure usb port. Front seats require removal for this to be carried out

You have to remove the front seats to take the centre console out?!

Would we be able to check that the seats need to come out with one of those workshop manuals floating around? Maybe there is a way to get to the back of the panel in a “not-the-right-way” but that still fixes your issue.

if you can get at the bolts with the seat still in situ you’d be able to remove the console with the seats in place (also, only one seat to remove, passenger according to Pg474 of the manual)….

I’ve not looked at the gap in mine to assess, so don’t know if there’s room to access the bolts with the seat in place. Doesn’t look too hard a job removing the seat though. Only a few bolts and a couple of connectors to remove.

Getting to the actual USB looks a fair bit more complicated…

OK @derek31a, I've come up with a DIY solution.

If you remove one of the centre kick panels, I used the drivers side for my example, but if you do the passenger side, you won't have to remove the footrest.

One popper, then 3 clips attaching it to the centre console, they just pull out.

This gives you access to all the gubbins behind the centre console.

From here you can reach your hand in behind the USBs, and with any luck if nothing is broken, you might be able to clip yours back into position, it's the blue plug in this picture.

But if something is broken, which is probably the case, get one of these flanged extensions, you'll need to enlarge the existing USB hole to 29mm x 26mm, then just clip it into the console, and plug both cables together.
There's plenty of space behind the console for the excess cable, and with the flange on the outside of the console, there's no chance of it pushing back in and losing it again.
