32A commando socket?

Has anyone connected an Ohme charge cable/module using a 32A commando socket?
Was wondering if this is something that can be installed on a budget, instead of the £1500+ quotes I've seen some are getting from installers?

Go with it just get a Electrician to do the work at the fuse box. Will be a lot cheaper then a wall box as said above if you become a octopus custome.

I had an electrician fit a 32amp commando socket and i bought a zencar charger with a 7/8m cable.
Works a dream.

I fitted one myself with a earth rod kit off ebay, It was around £15 I think.

I earthed them together.
Edit: I put the earth rod in the ground the other side of the garage wall within 6 feet of the charger .

I am not a sparky so only know what I have read.
If your rod is connected to the PEN and then there is an Open Pen fault up the road will your rod be the earth for all the properties after the fault?

Should be using a interlocked commando socket and make sure you have a type a rcd fitted and earthed with an earth rod

I am a little puzzled as I have seen several references to providing a earth rod for the charging port. The engineers from my DNO provided me a new earth point on the incomer to make it a TN-S system. They couldn't make any changes on the Consumer side but were quite specific in that the TN-S earth could not be connected BEFORE the earth rods were disconnected.

This information relates to Alun26 install top of this post as a earth rod or other device such as matt:e or garo pen fault device is required for the Ohme commando charger (other chargers have this inbuilt),and if your earth rod is connected to the consumer unit that the new earth is it should be disconneted,and connected direct to the commando socket, a new earth cable will have to be installed from your consumer unit to the DNO earth , in essence seperate earth paths for ev charger and consumer unit.

Yes that is correct, and is (one of) the reason why EV chargers require an independent earth, or a PEN fault detection device that DISCONNECTS THE EARTH CONNECTION in addition to disconnecting the power.

You ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT connect the charger earth rod to the installation earth. Doing so negates the purpose of having the rod, and in fact creates the risk you identified that never existed before.
