40000 Service, software update

Just had my ZS EV first service (40,000) in Australia.

Dealer told me that there was a software update required as part of a recall (surprised they hadn't already told me about it!). Anyway, I wrote down my software version pre service, and it was the same post service. How can I tell if they've done an update? How do I find out the latest software version available?

Where did you find the software version number?

If you read it from the infotainment unit I would guess this is only the software for the head unit. The ECU software is more than likely read from the OBD11 port.

Ah yes, I read it from the infotainment unit. So I basically can't tell if it's been updated or not?

No, that is only the version of software running in the head unit which is running Android.

I would imaging that when they plod in their diagnostic device into the OBD11 port it would automatically check the version of the ECU and tell them if there is a newer version.

Yip, if you wanted to know if anything was updated you would need a dongle and eZS program to read out the firmware versions.

From memory there are atleast 20 different modules with their own firmware, so if they did an update on, say the onboard charger firmware, you would not be able to see it in the infotainment screen.

Well nowadays there are small ECU's everywhere.

For example most new cars with matrix headlamps have a microcontroller in each headlamp.

But there are individual small microcontrollers in a lot of modules....Power steering, climate control, instrument cluster, infotainment, ABS/ESP brakes, airbags, radar, sign reader camera, heated, electrically operated seats and so on.

Mine had about 115 updates at 40,000kms. They had it 2 days because the dash didn't load up properly to begin with. Apparently it happens a lot.

The only difference I can tell is the wipers don't flick up into maintenance position like they used to.
