These 2-tone MG wheels look fairly cool. But they could be an expensive nightmare to sort out after a bit of kerb damage?......

I loved the diamond cut wheels on the X-Power, but kerbing them was always a bit of a worry. I don't have that worry now, and I think the MG4 aero covers are a good looking diamond cut imitation, and cheaper to replace.

So long as the damage isn't too deep you can get them recut fairly reasonably. Even a couple of times. But there is a limit to how much metal they can remove. I had the diamond cuts on my Golf-R refurbished once, the second time they were damaged (by Costco tyre fitters) I had them welded to fill the gouge, cut back again, and powder coated black. They looked even better!

Bridgestones 🤷🏻👎.
Not a fan of these tyres 🛞 at all tbh.
Had them on our Golf GTE hated them, gutted that the S5 had them fitted as factory fit.
Conti’s or Goodyear’s a much better option.

Just had these alloygators fitted. £150. I think they look classic with the grey aeros.
With the width of the IM5 they are probably needed

I'd never purchase Continental tyres again after the sidewalls cracked on my previous car far too quickly.
I got an advisory at the 2nd MOT with less than 4700 miles on the clock.
I always ran them approximately 5% above the recommended pressures. And where the car was parked on my driveway. It was sheltered from direct sunlight.

Is that the actual wheel, rather than an aero cover?
That’s a very important point. When I traded in my Trophy, the valuation was reduced because of some light kerbing. I now assume it was the aero covers and not the alloys themselves which were kerbed. Next time I sell I’ll look to buy new covers - they may be cheaper than the dealers px reduction.

We had the same condition on my wife’s car at about 6 years old and it had conti’s from the factory.
Low mileage user and owned the car from new.
Had a tip off from my MOT station that the tyres need replacing when the car was about 6 years old.
Cracks in the side walls had started.
Spoke to my local tyre shop, who I have used for nearly 40 years, he told me that this condition has become very common on many different brands of tyre now.
He said that the silicone content in the tyres had been increasing and he considered this to be a major factor in the increase in side wall cracks.
He told me honestly, that when tyres have reached about 5 - 6 years old, they should for safety reasons, be replaced regardless.
It was a big shame to see all four tyres 🛞 removed and discarded with still about 60% of tread left on them !.
I asked him if choosing a different top qualify brand would help reduce the premature side wall cracks, his reply was not what I expected tbh.
He strongly recommendation to fit I slightly more cost effective set of tyres instead, as it is very likely the same condition will still happen again.
You are unable to prevent it !.
He told me to stay well clear of using any type of tyre dressing and only use a water based product if you must, as other types can increase the problem.
The car has received two MOT’s since the tyres have been fitted and it’s only covered about 2500 miles in that time.
Only time will tell I guess 🤷🏻.
