What about battery purchase vs lease? Or did Renault can that business model for the later cars?
No, Renault don't do it any more, it seemed like a good idea at the time (5 or so years ago), because it lowered the initial purchase cost of the car, and guaranteed your EV battery for life (because you never owned it yourself), but, probably because nobody else did it, Renault decided it wasn't the way forward.

Wasn't the Zoe rating for NCAP zero? That would be of concern at least for me.
It was 5* when it came out, they removed/replaced side impact airbags which possibly caused it to be re-evaluated and it didn't meet the current standards for crash testing or ADAS.

The battery leasing passed into history a while back; as to the safety rating, we didn't know when we bought it and it's never been an issue for the Zoë owners' club I've polled online. Another car (a neighbour has one) that would suit OP is the BMW i3; I've been out in the neighbour's and it's a dream to drive.

Indeed I looked a bit further and the car got zero when NCAP changed their approach regarding scoring. It does miss side airbags but the rest of the downgrading was due to lack of all the active protection 'crap' which we all switch off lol...

I suspect a lot of 2013 cars would score zero on that basis now. Come to think of it for 40 of the 50+ years I've been driving the cars would have had zero stars!

I think the mini and metro that I used to drive got very low ratings even then, let alone now.

I'm genuinely lucky to be alive given how stupidly I used to drive as a reckless teenager.
