Hi,

I recently got an MG S5EV and it came with a free Aurora Charger. The charger has been installed and there have been issues with scheduled charging. After looking online it appears that there is a firmware update needed to address the issue BUT, I’m getting mixed messages on whether I need to connect to it via an Ethernet cable or not to do the update.

The Ethernet port is apparently on the back of the unit, and can’t be accessed now that it’s installed (without getting the electrician out again to take it down).

Has anyone done a firmware update on an MG Aurora Charge Hub via connecting to it over wifi? It’s not the kind of thing I want to just ‘try’ in case I stuff something up with the unit.

Any advice welcomed!

Thanks

Take it up with your dealer you bought it from them. Don't get fobbed off with people telling you it's free so take it or leave it it wasn't free it was included in the price, it it is part of the package you've contracted to be supplied with. If it doesn't work as needed it is not fit for purpose until it has the correct firmware installed. I hope that this gives you something to go on. Good luck with your new MG.

Something being free or included in a sale of something else doesn't exclude it from the same consumer protections as products and services that are paid for as stand-alone items.

This includes the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Don't be afraid to argue robustly for your charger unit to be serviced ot whatever it takes to get it working.

How recently you got it isn't clear, but if within 30 days, you can reject it or between 30 days and 6 months, you can give them one chance to fix it before you reject it.
After that, you have to prove the item had a fault.
