Advice on where to put a 7kW charger point

I have on order from Octopus a charger point for the new car.
What are the views on where to put it.

I can mount it in the garage but does that impact house insurance ? To me this seems the best but my wife is concerned about fire risk. The garage is detached.
I can mount it on an external wall as some of my neighbours have.

Nothing wrong with putting it inside the garage but I opted for outside to give the greatest amount of flexibility should I wish to use the space for other purposes.

Why in heavens sake is your wife worried about fire risk?
Do you have an electric oven? Gas hot plates? Gas heating? A reverse cycle air conditioner?
An electric shaver?

But they don't contain 64kWh of NMC chemistry li-ion batteries.

Whilst the probability of a fire from an EV is very low, it is more likely to suffer an issue when charging that just stationary and turned off. So, if you have the space, given the choice of charging inside or out, I'd always choose outside. Just my 2p though.

Install it where it is most convenient for how you plan to use it. You may have to compromise due to cable runs (or incur more installation costs)

Also consider if you plan to upgrade anything else in the property at a future date such as adding solar or battery storage and if you will need to run more cables to integrate the charger into the system.

Try to avoid direct sunlight.
1, it makes it difficult to read the screen
2, it can damage the screen or cabinet.

Screen? That depends on the charge point type. There's no screen on one of these.

There is nothing to worry about. Your garaged EV is far safer than that old ICE car full of highly flammable petrol.

I wouldn't say it is unsafe. Just, given a choice and enough space, personally I'd prefer to charge outside vs. inside; I'm just very risk-averse. But those risks are minimal and a fire alarm can always alleviate any 'worry' factor.

Obviously LiFePO4 ESS batteries are pretty safe compared to other Li-ion chemistries. Some (but not all, IMHO) of the recommendations in BSI PAS 63100:2024 are sensible to follow if you can't avoid having ESS batteries within a residential dwelling. (e.g. not adjacent to fire exit routes, having fire alarms etc.)

Or have an untethered charger. I keep the charging cable on one of the coat hooks just inside the front door so it's easy to grab when needed. After charging a quick wipe with a cloth and hang it back up.

This is where you can differentiate those that have put a little more thought into their design. Hypervolt is perfect for a neat unobtrusive tethered package.

Having a tethered charger I couldn't even contemplate an un-tethered one. The ease of pulling in, unwind and plug in is so good. No rummaging for cables hidden in the boot or in the frunk plugging in both ends, packing away a mucky wet cable when done...urgh. Destination charging feels like a real hassle after home charging with a tethered.
