Our lovely friends discounting and depreciation are coming to visit already! :p

I'm looking forward to what they get down to by end of next year, but almost 5% off new at this stage is a good sign of bargains to come!

"Electric Dreams". Its a bit of a wait...

Porsche have elaborated further. I reckon theyve had a gander at the MG and are taking subtle shots. They mentiones that "You sit close to the road, so it’s a huge advantage over [a platform where] you sit on top of the battery. It ’s a real sports car feeling.” “you are close to the centre of gravity of the car, so the handling is great”.

"The big disadvantage is weight, but we’ve done a lot to keep that in control. Weight-wise, you should not expect a package with weight in the area of a four-door car: we’re significantly better."

“This car, with really sharp steering and good braking, will be a package worth waiting for.”

They did state it might be pushed back and that they want to extend the 718 ICE lifecycle

Save £4500. Ex demo. Any owners selling theres around next summer should still command good money. For the GT anyway. Come on MG add OTA so people can buy. 😂

Is MG UK or dealers discounting '24 plated vehicles before the '25 ones arrive?

Cyberster values have held well to be fair. Its still a 3 month wait for a new one. I guess its 6-7 months early to tell about my predictions for end of year 1.

Im definitely tempted with the low milers near 50k mark. Although i have my eye on a V8 R8 which are old and hit and miss on maintenance even with a warranty. We shall see.

I’m waiting on March to see if there are any pre-reg ones around on a discount.

Otherwise I’ll aim for a used 24 plate from last year. The expensive car supplement being applied to EVs from March is annoying unfortunately

I like the R8's, just can't bring myself to buy anything ICE now though, classics and maybe a motorhome aside.

Typical UK. But it can be argued that used cars are still cheapest in Europe much of the western world. Everywhere else seems to have draconian taxes and premiums.

Quick update, around 7 GT's (maybe more!) currently on Autotrader now that will almost certainly all be attainable for £45k at most after a light haggle. So current retained value after around 10 months or so is 75%. It will be interesting to see what they drop to once they're over a year old and Autumnal weather is here.

I just love depreciation :)

We only have 1 ICE car left, the old Jazz tip car, great for fishing gear, horse feed and bedding. Fully intended to replace it with an electric van by now, but it only does around 3k miles costs peanuts to insure and run and the £345 van tax wipes out any fuel savings. Quite fancy a classic car though.

Lol as stated £38 - £44k During Year 2. This winter is fine to buy. I think the dual motors will end up sitting in the lower to mid 30s going from year 3 to 4 with Trophy in high 20s.

Nah, too optimistic (or pessimistic, depending on how you view it!) I fully expect GT's to be down at low to mid 30's by Winter '26. At 3 years old, we're going to be seeing mid 20's on the GT.

Time will tell us though, tick tock... ;)

Sales are dire but its a chance to bring about 300 coupes in October and see how they perform with 4 seats. Price it at £50,000 max. F type was £95,000 or so at one point. They will be lighter than convertible and have normal doors possibly with new batteries and quicker charging and more range. They may also redesign the rear lights. Lets see. MG may have overproduced Right hand drive convertibles so they could offer more heavy discounts on the new cars and do more public events.

You could probably get the new Model 3 Performance in a year for cheaper. But youre getting an exotic looking convertible for similar pricing....

Ofcourse theres a chance you can pick up a dual motor Cyberster at 27k at year 3 or 4. The likely thing would be that at 40k and under the sales will be better especially with sub 10,000 miles on used market than now at 46k. I rather a 4,000 mile car at £40,000 than 25,000 mile car at £35000. Theres a car with 19k miles for 44k but at 45k theres a 2400 mile one. Thats going to be the pattern. The 19k miler the guys crazy and should put it at £34-38k. High milers face very steep depreciation.

Young people are more interested in SUV and SUV convertibles. The rest of the yoof are not interested in driving due to costs. This affects sales a lot. Everyone else has kids so no can do. Stifled wages means 1 family car for many. The decline of the sports segment is sad to see indeed.

Sad to see the decline of the sports and convertible segments, indeed there was an article in the Sunday Times this week "UK’s love affair with the convertible car hits the end of the road. Britain was once known as the ‘convertible capital of Europe’ but most carmakers no longer offer a cabriolet as the relentless rise of the SUV continues"

Not all young people are interested in SUV and SUV convertibles, but is often a financial decision. We have a young couple in our family that have well-paid jobs and decided to delay having kids (possibly permanently) and recently bought an MX-5 and they love it (as do their friends).

I know there is a debate about the price, but I think the Cyberster offers great value when you compare to the Audi e-tron GT or Porsche Tacyan. I believe the price of EVs is going to have to drop significantly, particularly at the high end.

As with all things, I suspect there will be a cycle and convertibles will come back into fashion. All I do know is that whenever I go out with my Cyberster GT I am guaranteed to get a positive comment on the car. I was at a road junction a few days ago and stopped to let someone come out. The driver stopped, blocked the traffic for a few seconds and commented "that is a beautiful car". I am sure we have all had similar experiences. We just have to keep flying the flag 🇬🇧 (or perhaps 🇨🇳😉).

I'm not surprised. For many years, at least here in Germany, the roads have been so neglected that you inevitably need an SUV with four-wheel drive to get where you're going.

Perhaps the market is currently in decline, but I could well imagine that this will change again in a year or two.
