Android Auto update

There is a new version of android auto but I don't see any way to update the MG5 system. Is it an eventual over the air update or is it for after market head units only? Anyone tried it?

I didn't think you could update the car part, just the app on your phone.

Any idea what the update fixes, if anything, or is it just new features?

No real answers, but I've just got a new Pixel phone to replace my 3 year old one, and Android Auto appears to be much more reliable. I think newer AA versions are more likely to connect to the car with fewer errors.
Previously I had lots of issues with "framing error" that meant I needed to remove and reattach my USB cable.
So if you can update your AA version, I suggest you should do so
