Apple car play

I was wondering if anyone is able to help me with Apple CarPlay in the MGS5 trophy -

I believe my phone is connected via Bluetooth to the car as I did the QR code thing to pair it with the app, and if I open the phone tab it shows my contacts. However, when I select Apple CarPlay it can’t find my phone. My phone’s Bluetooth menu shows the MG so it’s an issue with the car seeing the phone rather than the other way around.

Does anyone know why this might be, or have any suggested fixes for it? I might just be trying to use it incorrectly as I’m used to an older petrol car which didn’t really have any fancy features, but even that could read my text messages out to me if I received one whilst driving. Text notifications are really the only thing I’d want from it as I listen to Spotify whilst driving, so if it won’t do that even once it’s paired then I’ll just save myself some time and not bother!

I found that connecting it with a USB cable for the first time helped the pairing process - once it was working with a cable, it then worked wirelessly. If you have two phones, you can select between the two via the Carplay icon once they're registered.
