So there was a recommendation on this website somewhere but cannot find it again, but, I bought a 2air carlinkit and it did not work with the MG4, then someone stated that this dongle may work

I bought a Hstop dongle but it only work after a unplug-replug. The phone connects to it but CarPlay doesn’t start despite changing settings as suggested from the manufacturer

The car systems take a while to start up after you get to ready mode, so it is vital the dongle has a start up delay of at least 30 seconds.

What happens is the dongle will look for the car, not see it, and time out. When you unplug it and plug it back in the dongle sees the car and it works. By delaying the dongle start up, the dongle won’t start looking for the car until the car is ready, and find it on the first try.

A little side note, if you pre-condition the cabin, it for some reason also primes the infotainment system, and the dongle will make a CarPlay connection as soon as you sit down. But starting the car form “cold and dark” it takes a little bit for everything to get going.

Hi,

Just posting this for people who are in the same situation as I was. Since owning my car, my biggest issue has been the poor connectivity of carplay and lack of wireless option. Today I received my wireless apple carplay dongle from AliExpress. It cost £6 and arrived within a week or so. I followed the set up steps and it worked perfectly in my MG4 Trophy LR 2022, straight away! Honestly, I had zero faith in the product even ARRIVING never mind WORKING! But there you go! I can take other photos or videos if anyone thinks they might be useful.

PS. there are loads of variations of this on AliExpress. I'm not suggesting they're all good. Here's the specific item I purchased (though it now looks like it's £14.49, but I'm sure that'll drop in a day or two anyway.

I should also mention that this dongle creates its own instance of Carplay / AA, which means you need to 'forget' your MGs BT and WiFi settings and add this ones instead.
