Just like all Americans think the USA is the centre of the world. Death Valley has an unofficial record of 56.7*C in 1913, but modern verified records are around the 54.5*C ..... certainly hot, but now world record hot ...... they just don't put weather stations out in the hottest parts of Australia, because no one lives there, not even the local tribes .....
I've been caught out attempting to get back from WA ahead of a bushfire, in a diesel Hino minibus/motorhome ..... with a broken governor spring, flat out 50km/h. Limped into the WA end of the Nullarbor to the roadhouse/all in everything service centre.
The radiator has been boiling for the last 4 hrs, don't dare stop, you'd die out there in that heat and zero humidity because of the fires, it would not stop boiling left idling or when I turned it off, 5 pm, so past the worst part of the day.
Went to enter the tavern/bar/eatery, a big round thermometer in the window with icy blue and white looking window paint around it, 52*C, but written below it "but the beer is still cold" ...... only in Australia
